I'm curious if the rules specify a definition for a rectangle. Generally in math, squares are considered to be a rectangle. posting at 7:03 in the video, the group has pointed out a 8 large rectangle, however there is a 9 large square/rectangle.

@@hiho8084 Well, rectangle is defined as having all angles right and opposite sides parallel. The same goes for a square. It's a special type of rectangle.

A square is just a specific type of rectangle.

in the "how to play" she should have scored the square she was wanting to originally it was 9 vs the 8 they told Nikki to change too.

While Lincoln was saying, "I'm a dope, I'm a dope, I'm a dope," I couldn't help hearing it to the tune of "Amadeus."

I would say there needs to be one more scoring rule: add the smallest total of whatever color squares you have at the end. This is to prevent you from trying to always break up squares to keep the count low to make it easier to balance. So you all did make a lot of squares and Nikki would add 18 more for her green count so Lincoln would still win, but Deborah would tie Nikki as she had 23 more to add.

I find this game to be fascinating.

Looking at her board at 48:51, I don't think Deborah had a perfect balance. I think she was 2 off. After placing the last tile she only had 21 city tiles total vs 23 of the green tiles. Great playthrough though! I actually went and ordered myself a copy immediately after finishing the video!

Lincoln also had a difference of 1. 20-21

She was technically off by 2, yes, but had she placed her fountain next to the last tile she played, given her another city block it would have balanced out perfectly to be 22 and 22. That means she could have non-trivially still had the 20 points for balance so no real change there.

How many can play?

Do the rules preclude using a running total on the green and black (as you make them)? It would seem to be much easier than recounting each and every round.

That's what Deborah did and she ended up miscounting... She ended up scoring 20 points for perfect balance when she was off by 2. So I definitely think it would make sense to do this but maybe recount at the very end to make sure it was tracked correctly. 😊
