RISK definitely needs the help, but I will say (assuming your RISK is set in the 18th or 19th century,) amphibious assaults weren’t like those of WWII. Landings themselves generally weren’t opposed because of the relatively small armies. It wasn’t feasible to defend a massive coastline, because the enemy could simply sail until they reached a place you weren’t. Therefore, naval support was usually used to attack ports, and even then a single fort could thwart an entire fleet. For these reasons, you may want to modify these rules substantially in your own game.

I have recently discovered your channel, and am quite excited, as I have recently been bitten by the A&A bug. I bought A&A 1942 Online yesterday, but I have an issue... With transports in the Online version, how do you move, pick up troops, then move and do an amphibious assault? I can only seem to pick up troops in my current land before moving and assaulting. All video tutorials I found were made before the tablet rework that changed right clicking, from how I understand it.
@BoardGameNation3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Welcome to Board Game Nation! The transports in the A&A Online version can take a bit of trial and error. So much so that I have been thinking about a video about just that one thing. Maybe. In the meantime, let's see if we can get you going. I am going to assume that you are playing on a desktop computer. To make the move you describe, here is what you do. 1) Left Click the Transport to select it. (You should see other sea zones highlighted. These are the possible places you can send it. You should also see a spinning highlight around the transport. Note, that the system won't let you send the transport into a hostile sea zone until you send some kind of escorting unit.) 2) Right click the sea zone you want to move the transport to. (A blue arrow should appear showing the path of the transport along with a diamond shape with a "1" in it.) 3) Load the troops by either right clicking them while the transport is selected or by dragging and dropping them into the sea zone. (While doing this, you may have to specify how many troops you want to move. Once you have loaded troops, you should see areas that you can attack light up in red. A flashing warning triangle and some more numbers in diamonds.) 4a) If the sea zone you are attacking from doesn't matter, make sure the transport is selected, then you can right click on the land territory you want to attack and the system will do the rest. It will move the transport into the adjacent sea zone and offload the troops. 4b) If you want to move the loaded transport again before dropping off AND you want to be specific about where it goes, left click the transport to select it again. (It will still be in the sea zone it started in. It hasn't moved yet.) When it is highlighted, you will see areas light up in blue. Again, these are your movement options. Right click the area you wish to move the transport to and the right click the land territory you wish to offload into (highlighted in red) and start a fight. Clear as mud, right? I hope this helps. Either way, I think I just wrote the script for the video explaining this. LOL Let me know when you have more questions. Thanks for watching!

@@BoardGameNation A appreciate your tips! I was able to get it working for myself, and have been playing. I am new to the A&A world... never heard of it till I bought a copy of 1941, loved it so much I bought 1942 (second edition), and as I dig deeper into the game, I bought A&A Online. However, I can beat the AI, but when I go against real players, I get absolutely trounced. Is there any way I can play against players of my own skill level? It is very discouraging...

@@BoardGameNation At this point, I have improved majorly at 1942.... although I get annoyed with the opening move dice rolls seem to dictate the game's outcome between equally skilled players. What I am wanting now is more in depth instructions on 1940 global, specifically on how neutral countries work. Now, I know 1940 is a more specialized entry in the A&A world, but I've got the games, am working on building my skills, and am trying to convince my friends that playing a game that big will be fun! :)

Is it possible to do am amphibious attack with a submarine and a transport against a defensive aircraft carrier with an airplane? My thought is that if the fighter lands a hit then it must be to the transport due to not being able to hit the sub. Would the Aircraft have to be defeated before the transport can land (eg. The sub hits the carrier in the surprise attack and the fighter does not hit the transport on that turn)? How would it be different if the attacker had multiple subs and defense had a destroyer present? Would the attacker be able to take the first hits from the fighter onto the subs as long as the destroyer is present and then back to the earlier case?
@BoardGameNation2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! That's a lot of questions. Let's see if I can get them all. No, a sub and transport could not perform an amphibious assault in a sea zone with a carrier and fighter in it. Even if the sub hit and killed the carrier, the fighter is still in the zone (making it hostile) until the non-combat phase. It would be the same if the attacker had multiple subs and if the defender had a Destroyer for the same reason. I hope that helps. Let me know if I missed anything! Thanks again for watching!

The last scenario......... Transport (2 infantry) + battleship + cruiser go in for an amphibious assault, A defending sub is in the space: 1- I can choose to ignore sub and perform the on shore bombardment ? 2- It is only a 1 time shot at the beginning of the first round, or do they get more shots if a second round happens ? I was assuming just one round of firing. 3- If I choose to take out the sub, then all ships are committed to the sea battle and no amphibious bombardment can happen correct? Also because no destroyer with the assault, sub gets special attack first? It's all starting to come together for me hahhahah.
@BoardGameNation2 жыл бұрын
You are almost there! #1 - Yes, you can ignore any number of subs and amphibiously assault. (Note: a transport alone cannot do this. There has to be a warship as an escort.) #2 - You assume correctly. Offshore Bombardments are always just one shot per ship and the number of ships that can fire is capped by the number of units begin offloaded into the battle. #3 - If you choose to attack the sub, all the warships are committed (no offshore shots), but their mission is to clear a path for the transports to attack the land territory. (Yes, without a Destroyer in the mix, the sub will get its Surprise Attack ability.) Once the sub is destroyed, the transports offload their troops and the land battle commences. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and good hunting!

Hi, Gary. I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean by "The number of ships that can perform offshore bombardments is limited to the number of land units being offloaded from the same sea zones as the ship doing the firing"? Does this mean that if 1 land unit is being offloaded then only 1 ship can perform an offshore bombardment and 2 units offloaded means 2 ships can perform offshore bombardments, or am I picking you up wrong? Thanks
@BoardGameNation3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You've got it right. If you are offloading one land unit, then one ship may perform an offshore bombardment. 2 guys? 2 ships? Etc. Thos shops can't have done sea combat and they have to be in the same sea zone as the units being dropped off. I hope that helps and the you'll consider subscribing to the channel! A quick question, if I attack a sea zone that encompasses a territoy, for example Japan does that mean I am also fighting against the Japanese air units? (Version: Axis and Allies 1941 by: Avalon Hill) - Thanks in advance
@BoardGameNation2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! If you are attacking a sea zone, the only air units that you need to worry about are in that zone on aircraft carriers. Air units on adjacent land territories are not involved in the sea combat. (True for the version you're playing, but rules in other versions vary on this topic.) If the attack on the sea zone is part of amphibious assault, then the land based air units will be part of defending the land territory they occupy. I hope this helps! Thanks again for watching!

Hello, I have a question, can I do an amphibious assault on the same territory with 2 transport ships that contain 2 infantry in each ship and support with 4 battleships or cruiser to bomb the same territory?
@BoardGameNation3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Thanks for asking. The number of ships that perform an offshore bombardment can be no more than the total number of land troops being offloaded into the territory from the same sea zone as the ships doing the firing. The number of transport ships is irrelevant. All that matters is the number of land units entering combat compared to the number of ship wanting to bombard. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

@@BoardGameNation basically everything before the transports drop off the units in the region in question. How I've played while ignoring this rule is by sending dropping off troops in friendly territories and then trek to the different regions. On the other hand, I could just deploy them from a factory in the continent closest to the desired territory and then they trek there. Other times I will drop off the units via transport onto a territory that's unoccupied
@BoardGameNation3 жыл бұрын
I want to help, but you are going to need to be more specific about what you are having trouble with. Basically, you can pick up one or two units while moving up to two sea zones and drop off once. The land units can't move before or after being on the transport. They can load and unload in the same turn, but they can't move before getting on or after being offloaded. You can do this during the Combat move phase, if you plan to attack a hostile land territory. You can also do this during the non-combat phase, if you want to relocate the troops without combat. Does that help?
