on the odd chance there's any non-chileans wondering about all the chileans losing their shit about this song, there's a mediocre college in the country, Universidad Santo Tomás, which is mainly (or solely) known to chileans for two things: 1. going with this absolute banger of a theme for its advertising 2. its founder dying after accidentally setting himself on fire while murdering a guy and trying to pass it off as an accident
@quirkypurple3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining. I thought Santo Tomás was some KZbinr. Boards of Canada's music turns up in weird places.. like BBC produced animations like Monkey Dust and some documentary I saw about the Grinder killer in the UK.

Has anyone here ever had an album you listened to that you felt just hit you in the perfect place at the perfect time? This video means so much to me. I was in my early twenties and had experienced relationship heart break for the first time. My heart was destroyed. I decided to leave England and move to the French Alps. I remember discovering IDM and BoC. I discovered Cannabis. The wounds have healed but the scars remain. The video and song doesn't have the same intensity of emotion that it had, but it reminds me how supported quality music can be to humans in a vulnerable state.

This song fits my everyday mood. It's not too sad nor too happy. It's simply odd and makes you realize how absurd life really is.

This blows my mind every time I see it and I can't really put my finger on the reason why. There's such a strange quality to this music that no one else really even comes close to matching. Makes me feel nostalgic for things I've never lived and memories I never had

This video with footage from 1980's uk tv adverts with BOC's roygbiv in the background is weirdly stunning! It brings childhood's memories and emphasizes the nostalgia of the past. In a personal way, memories remain within us. To remember is to live...

+MysticKoolaid808 A late reply, but you might want to look into synthpop and synthwave. It's contemporary with an 80s soundtrack/new wave vibe. Great stuff if you're into that!

Damn, this video definitely inspired some vaporwave down the line. This is like proto-vaporwave.
@paulgenevzki24777 жыл бұрын
It's possible. Here's my hypothesis: ambient >> techno-ambient / "IDM" >> from speed-funny Aphex Twin to this slow-mellow by Boards of Canada >> Oneohtrix Point Never [OPN] works before he was joined the infamous Warp Records. OPN made a quite smooth transition from the Tangerine Dream/BoC naked synth style to his other projects such as Eccojams/KGB Nights/Games which 1980s soundscape was heavily inspired and these also gave inspiration to many early vaporwave artists. After you watch this [roygbiv], I recommend you to watch "Ouroboros" by OPN, both gave me nostalgic feelings when I spent much time in front of a TV with funny ads and corporate jingles.

Don't forget hip hop and soul's influence on vaporwave - the genre is very similar to hip hop's chopped and screwed substyle, and vaporwave prob wouldn't exist without the soul samples it uses
