Thats intentional. In mob films (love Scorsese but he’s guilty of this) they love to focus on the Black folks that either get killed by or are Uncle Toms for the mob. Chalky, although we love him, was an Uncle Tom with swagger. He kept the Negroes in check, influenced them to vote a certain way, and dressed well because of the crumbs he made because of his fealty to Nucky. But he was never fully respected as a white man, let alone an Italian. They love it. I think in these films and shows they know the audiences are mostly nonblack so it helps the audience maintain a feeling of relative prestigious aura of the whites compared to the blacks. I think they believe that anything to the contrary would “cheapen” the perceived esteem of “made men”. The Irish, and other mob families will be the protagonists rival, and they will ALWAYS make the Black characters their bitch. That’s why Coogler and Fuquan need to make mob films, like do one on Frank Matthews. When non-black directors do these mob films, and have a Black character who’s supposedly representing Black Empowerment (ie, Dr Narcisse with the illustrious Universal Negro Improvement Association, of which I am a member), they make him sinister and evil. Hard to resist because these shows/films are overall BRILLIANT, but one who’s tapped in really can’t help but notice the agenda.

Contrary to what ppl believe, u can be both. If your ppl have absolutely no power. How can you gain it. You first have to assume power or your ppl. I'm order to pursue power for your ppl. Ghengis Khan made it so his ppl were the most powerful empire in history. He first did that by conquering his tribe. His literal family. Then the tribes..his cousins. Then he conquered the world. Unless your ppl just agree your chief or king..you have to take it. So contrary to modern thought a drug pusher and pimp can infact be the person who empowers his ppl..think Malcom X

Narcisse was a snake. He poisoned his own community with drugs while pretending to be "civilized" whereas Chalky DID actually care about Black folks. Saddly, he let his emotions, ego and lust over a club girl be his downfall. Nuck even tries to point out that he has a wife and kids at home, but Chalky didn't heed this advice. I was really glad that Chalky got his own contained storyline as opposed to being a part of everyone else's. My only regret is that it followed a VERY strong Season3 with an amazing villain like Gyp Rosetti. The 4th season felt like it dragged on forever and more of a spy thriller- and on top of that, that Dr. Narcisse character felt like a main villains right hand man at best. He was just a dull character, but that is only my opinion. It was almost disappointing to see Chalky White lose to him.

I worked security on the set of Boardwalk Empire for the 3 seasons...& I became friends with some of the actors like Michael Shannon.. Michael Pitt..& Steve Buscemi Btw even tho Boardwalk Empire is set in Atlantic City & New Jersey in general..not ONE scene was shot in Jersey.. the majority of the scenes were shot in NYC..& the actual Boardwalk set with the hotels & store fronts was actually located in a former school bus depot a few blocks away from me in my neighborhood of Greenpoint Brooklyn.. which made it easy for me when i worked on set .. Btw the scene at Chalky's warehouse where the KKK hung one of Chalky's men..was actually filmed in an empty storefront in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn..& because we were filming a scene in the hood in Brooklyn where you have a body( mannequin) literally lynched hanging for 12 hours ..we thought that there MIGHT be a problem..so i had a couple extra guys that day just in case but there were no problems Ill leave you with one detail you might find interesting.. Martin Scorsese was the Executive Producer of Boardwalk Empire & he actually directed the pilot I remember watching Scorcese walking around the set at night with a P.A..( Production Assistant.. basically kids who run errands for the director)... with a flashlight Scorcese would point at the ground every few minutes & the P.A. would bend down & pick something up..i asked the P.A. later on WTF was going on..& he told me that Scorcese was a fanatic about every detail being perfect on his sets.. So him & the P.A. were checking to make sure that no cigarette butts with FILTERS were on the ground because FILTERED cigarettes didn't EXIST in the 1920s Anyways keep up the great work brother im loving the videos 👑

Out of the entire six season, with all the copious acts of gratuitous violence, countless murders, mamings and the deaths of characters that you'd gotten to know, one of standout tragic deaths of the show was Chalky's daughter. Not because she was popular character, she wasn't fleshed out enough for that to happen, but it was the implications of her accidental killing. The two obvious ones was Richard's end and the almost complete destruction of Chalky's life. Beyond that it had a significant ripple effect for the other powerful characters. That doesn't even get to Shakespearean tragedy of it all. A young girl, just starting on her way to life cut down by a bullet that might as well have been fired by her father. The father, meaning to take out his nemesis who was trying to take what was his, but ended up killing his daughter and hastening his own loss. And it was a sad irony that Richard had been the one that fired the bullet. We know that the killing of Angela Darmody was something that affected him greatly. Beyond the fact that they were friends and he liked her, she was an innocent. Both were Innocents that were connected to one of his very few friends; Jimmy with Angela and this girl and Chalky(i can't remember his daughters name). Everything about it was lamentable.

Chalky lost a lot in his battle with Narcisse but Narcisse lost a lot himself in this war. He lost Daughter who he raised and was a star. He had to become an informant giving the FBI info on Marcus Garvey witch got him deported. And he lost respect for himself in season 4 he wanted to be addressed as doctor but in season 5 when Lucky asked he liked to be addressed he said "whatever you prefer" he didn't fight for his doctor title. Chalky had to rely on Nucky during these times a black man especially one with no education had no choice. Narcisse was educated and sneakier but one of his downfalls was he underestimated Chalky. Chalky didn't have a college education or a high school education but he had street smarts he was a better business man than Jimmy and Eli and sharp intuition to know a good deal when he saw one. When he went to Havre De Grace he took his mentor's advice and tried to start something of his own with Oscar's men but like Oscar told him they wasn't reliable and they left him during a robbery which is how he got locked up.

His name was "Narcisse" for a reason (obviously talking about Jeffrey Wright's character) 🤔

Yes RIP. I remember him as Ray Ray on The Sopranos (S 3 E 13) where he gave Jackie Jr a place to hide...

Chalky was still a wanted man for escaping from jail. He would have been wanted always. So his downfall had no better way.
