These are the most interesting videos about the boardwalk hall organ findable on the internet. Thanks a lot!

Damn when he played the first note, I thought my leaf blower at the garage was short-circuited.

First note the only impressive one. The rest is a waste of space.

Why do the lower notes sound so quietly? Is it because of the microphones being used, or is it the way they're voiced? They sound more like a 16 ft than a 32 ft, although I could hear on some of them the oscillations that a 32 ft stop makes. I would bet that in the auditorium, it sounds pretty thunderous! Some more videos of the other 32 ft stops would be cool if you ever get time, especially the reeds. :-)
@chrisnagorka51995 жыл бұрын
The bottom of this rank really is that quiet, it doesn't do much. It seems like they either have insanely powerful 32s or this one, with nothing in between.

@@chrisnagorka5199 Wouldn't it sound louder out in the hall where the waveform could form more easily?
@chrisnagorka51995 жыл бұрын
@@CorvetteCoonass Sounds good in theory but no. You're actually "hearing" the harmonics of the fundamental pitch, which can be heard close up.

It’s because it goes below 20 hertz which is our hearing range. So it’s not going to sound right on the low end

Do they have that on that organ???
@williammitchell18642 жыл бұрын
@@DJDevvin Yes they do! Most of them that I've listed anyway. I don't think they have the 64' Contre Trombone though. The only organ I know of that has a full length 64' Contre Trombone is the organ at the Sydney Hall, in Australia.

I wonder how the principal 32’ on the great organ is holding up. I hear it is in the right stage chamber, so has it been operational for the organ’s life?
@cnagorka2 жыл бұрын
The big 32' Open Diapason is in the left chamber and it's going like gangbusters! It just came back on line a few years ago.

@@cnagorka ah, but isn’t that stop (the metal one) in the pedal organ? I was wondering about the wood stop on the right side, or so the stop list led me to think.
@cnagorka2 жыл бұрын
@@y11971alex I guess you're right...I don't even know where that stop is on the right side! Regardless, yes, as far as I know it's been working the whole time.

Usually you use an already tuned rank an octave above the one you want to tune. The interference can be heard easily and you keep adjusting the pipe until the interference is vanished.

He listens to the beating of the two frequencies between the fagotto and the rank 1 octave apart. I'm a piano tuner, I do exactly the same when listening to the piano strings. As the two notes get more in tune the beats get slower, until it stops altogether and the two pipes are perfectly (in theory!) in tune.
