I noticed that the new rubber was cut at 90 degrees where the two ends meet. I've done a lot of gaskets for a valve repair company years ago. I would like to suggest that the rubber be cut, instead, at a 45 degree angle. This would prevent a straight line across the surface where the ends meet making it more difficult for water to wear a path across the gasket surface. It's entirely possible that this may be overkill but it may add life to a new installation and it's easy to do. This idea hinges, so to speak, on the gasket kit being long enough to allow for a little extra trim.

Good suggestion 😃👍🏻

Great video! One thing about acetone is that it can react with certain plastics like polycarbonate or plexiglass coatings, so some tape to protect the glass might save you some damage.

Thanks for the tip, but I've been using acetone everywhere on our boats for over 20 years and have had no ill effects. If course, all of those boats have been Sea Rays, so I can't speak to the potential effects on lesser quality boats 😉

great videos. keep them coming. krates marina 2nd year captain and watching just after an April ice storm. I can't wait to get on the boat after a long winter. Dwayne. info at first power generators usual ending. Doral 27' twin engines. 50% up the learning curve but it is difficult sometimes in tough conditions. I think the saying should be instead of "I am going to try boating". It should be "Boating is going to try you". lol Dwayne. Please send a note maybe to compare notes or trips me and my wife should take from Lake Simcoe. Thanks

Took note of item number because we had same issue with a leaking hatch over our forward berth after taking possession of our new-to-us '93 SeaRay EC last fall. Only problem is - can't get the hatch open to replace the gasket! Suspect previous owner might have sealed it shut in an attempt for stop the leak. Gotta figure out how to get it open without busting anything.

Here's a heads up on your sealed shut hatch; We had a similar issue on our last #boat, with one of the side windows feeling like it was welded shut! Problem was that it had been closed for so long, the rubber gasket fuzed with the plexiglass window. My solution was to very gently pry it open by slowly (!!) sliding a very flat bar between the two. Took some gentle persuasion, but I was able to get it open with minimal swear words 😉 Cheers, Paul.

Thanks, Paul. I was concerned about forcing it open, will definitely give it a whirl the next time we visit for a pre-launch inspection! (Hopefully the previous owner did not silicone it shut!)

Success! Carefully opened hatch; yes there was silicone around the hinge. Gasket was in poor condition, so I ordered Taylor Made gaskets (via Amazon) and thanks to your video will replace existing ones on our 1993 SeaRay 370 before she gets wet near the end of April.

Wondering where you sourced that Taylor made # 1725 kit.

I don't exactly recall, but I'd wager that it came via Amazon. The delivery van is parked down the road anyways, do might as well get him to drop something off every day 😁

Now if you can just help me locate a new port side hatch support rod!!!!
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Жыл бұрын
Just do a Google search for 'taylormade hatch parts', assuming that your boat is equipped with a Taylormade hatch. The corporate site should help you determine the specific parts you need, and Amazon or other online retailers will most likely have what you're after. Conversely, if it's a Bowmar hatch, do a search for it instead of the Taylormade. That said, if it is a Bowmar, my experience in dealing with the manufacturer directly was an incredibly frustrating ordeal and would highly recommend to look for assistance through a third party vendor only.

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Thanks! The rods are Taylor but the hatch is Bomar.
