I bought this 10kw few months ago and i'm still building the mounts and support to hold the motor in place well aligned with the prop shaft.I'm not gonna lie it was not easy but i did it without paying any marine mechanic's (they're out of their minds). No need gear reduction i connect the motor straight to the shaft prop and setup look better in my opinion.I think the gear reduction is over priced too. I used stainless steel, i'm not a ingenieur what so ever and i want to let people's know that if i did it you can do it too!!

We hope you installed some sort of a thrust bearing as the motor bearing will not take the load your prop will put on it. Also a gear reduction is a torque multiplier, if you have a very small diameter, high speed prop you may not need more torque to run it but if you are only running max prop rpm under 1000 then the controller will pull a lot of current and overheat. like the charge voltage is the charge voltage....so the MPPT programming would ask for a nominal voltage and cell type.....and the MPPT then is entirely based on the current output.....and at some RPM, the current would be limited, where the product would remain the same, no matter how fast the prop was spinning.

prop re-gen is like mapping a maximum load curve....but talk to your controller manufacturers about marine specific software updates, and learn it......i don't know if they have a marine specific software update for it, but the software should function like MPPT in re-gen...( with an adjustable current limit that lets the prop spin more beyond a point ) so if they do have a marine MPPT re-gen software update, it would be a piece of cake, otherwise you have to work for it, like you're hacking the system to get what you need.. the Sevcon controller re-gen is like a rubber tire on a road.....well it's not quite like that, is it?

It's a good video, but it would also be helpful to show how to set up the gear reduction, battery charger etc. Also, this is missing the 200 amp breaker.

Would really be helpful to address adding the cooling system components in the tutorial, I'm still scratching my head and will probably have to add a completely separate 12v system.

Can this System work with a Cal 27-2 Sailboat, Replacing an Atomic 4

Online specs show your Cal around 7,000 pounds so YES this would work great for that. Check to see if your A4 has a 2:1 reduction or a 1:1 (less common) so we can get the appropriate prop speed.

Hey there. Question: I have a life boat row boat style. Converting to solar electric boat. About how long can it run on4 75 ah gelcellbatteries. Boat is about 1000 lbs.

It depends a lot on how fast you need to go. If you're just trolling around (using similar power as an electric bicycle for instance) you may get 5 hours out of it whereas if you're maxing the system out you'd be closer to half an hour. Sorry but I don't have any concrete numbers for you as I don't think we've put one of these in a life boat. If you could borrow a trolling motor that would give you an idea of the power consumption at X speed.

Solar charging systems are separate. We do not deal with solar, but a solar provider should be able to assist you with the setup.

I have 32 years old Beneteau oceanis 350 sailboats. I would like to replace my 30 HP diesel engine with a 10KW Brushless Sailboat Kit. I would like to know how many ampers I need for 70% power drive 4 hours? I'll calculate battery cost and area needs. Is my motor can charge my batteries when I sail? I think I'll need a hybrid inverter for this project. Can you suggest a hybrid inverter for this project (capacity, power, etc)?

If you're not needing 4 hours often you may be better off just bringing a generator for those times that you do need four hours. Please email us so we can have our staff answer any more tech questions you may have.

I have a LANCER 42ft sailboat at 22000lbs and did the whole conversion minus solar for 11k. Half the price of other competitors. Selling my diesel components will half that. So 5k for piece of mind, no maintenance, no smell, quite and clean! I went with the 24kw kit w gear reduction and prismatic lithium cells 96v. ThunderStruck EV has excellent customer service and a great product and price. Highly recommend.

Is there any benefit to having a pre-charge circuit as my lithium battery BMS closes its contactor with the 5kw brushless?

The purpose of a precharge circuit is to slowly charge the controller capacitors before closing the main contactor. This prevents damage to the controller and arcing in the main contactor. If you handle this process elsewhere then fine.

They have the ability to activate a pre-charge contactor through the resistor for 3 seconds before closing the main contactor. But only if I activate it in the software will it work. I'm building one now for a customer that's using your 5kw brushless.

I got one of those kits with a water cooled PMAC, but it's not working. The Sevcon drive doesnt throw a fault, and batts are at 100% SOC.

Shunts are typically placed in series between the battery pack most negative terminal and the controller.

What is the output of "throttle" is that CAN ???

The throttle output for this is 5 volts. The other pins are for fwd and reverse switching.

Hi, do you know what's brown and black wire from sevcon Gen 4 80v 180a size 2 is for what? Comes from 3 pin connector but just have 2 wire and brown wire have 40v and black is ground, I don't knowbid use for what function ?

Brian Hall Do you know where does he use CAN connection?? In datasheet there are two CAN connections, in this video I dont see any CAN connections. Is the output of throttle analog? why does it have 9 pins?
