Native South Carolinian here. Grew up in the midlands, living in the upstate, but love going to the coast. I can literally smell this video! And BTW, it literally NEVER snows in Charleston. Just southern hospitality trying to make you feel at home!

Good morning to Akiva 🐺 and Crew , as a Canadian who lives with snow all winter long it was pretty amusing to see that Florida got a snowfall last week 😹😸😹 , Steve ,with all the gear and preparations you did for Arabella did you think to pack a snow shovel 😸😺 --- Hah ! 2 seconds after I post this comment Steve pulls out a pink snow shovel 😹😹😹

The edit from the bridge passage to him bundled up squinting into the mist cracked me up. Looks like one of those days that Calvin's dad would say "builds character", as if these guys aren't already characters. If they make it down to the intracoastal in Florida, there are an insane number of sunk and abandoned boats. I swung through there in early January and every causeway has boats sunk next to it and run aground on it. Even in a small canal on Merritt Island there were two big power boats sunk, there doesn't seem to be anyone funded to get rid of them, and the salvage value of a plastic boat is negative.

Yep, you picked the 'perfect' time to be in GA. This is the first time I've ever seen where it snowed here twice in one year. And had 5 day streaks in the 20's. Normally it snows about 2 out of 3 winters. Snows in the evening, ONE day of snow on the ground, and day three it's melted (except for patches in the shade), and that's it. This year was a nightmare.

Ha - Your discussion of the ordeal reminds me of when I did the trip in the winter of 1975/spring of1976. That was one of the coldest winters on the east coast. No heat in the cabin except the flame from a can of stereo. Condensation was so bad I would wake up to see ice sickles that had formed inside the cabin. Without a doubt it was the most bone chilling cold I have ever experienced and over several months to boot. I can also state, however, it was one of the best experiences and now look back on it fondly. I expect you will do the same one day. Cheers

We're in NE Texas, near Texarkana, and when it gets cold I have to drain the hoses and put our water booster pump in the garage. We use rainwater for our livestock and when it's too cold for the hoses and pump I have to haul water in 5 gal. buckets. Hauling water isn't too bad but watching you shovel water (snow) reminded me just how much I DON'T LIKE snow. Stay warm.

I has watch the cold weather move across the southern states and new you were in for it . The location system says you now at St August in Florida hopefully the weather is turning in your favor. The motor sounds great glad you were able to get her humming. As to moving the controls. Please take into account that you need to have it close enough for changing directions and speed.

My wife and I built a house and moved from Denver to Charleston, SC three years ago. Cost-of-living was one reason, but my wife's from NOLA so we left the snow as another reason. Typical, that I tossed my ice scraper two weeks before this storm! Good times!

Please don't snap at me. My birthday is in the middle of February. I was living in the British Virgin Islands and one of the Hertz Rent-a-boat companies needed another delivery of a brand new vessel ( Gulf Star 50) from Tampa to Tortola. I was on the verge of being gleeful when you showed the snow in South Carolina. Because the trip from Tampa started off below freezing. As Arabella continued her journey south and the cockpit clothing became sleeping bags, I moderated my glee to sympathy and empathy. The delivery to Tortola was also a delivery of freight for the charter boat stores. My forward cabin (fo'c'sle) was stuffed with pillows. Hooray! At least I was in a warm bunk. I am really saddened for everyone on Arabella. So, who got to sleep with Akiva? A one dog night. The cold snap won't last. It'll get warmer. I promise.

Also, you should look into Poler's Zonker Napsack. Basically a sleeping bag you can move around in. I live in Germany and it gets cold, but buildings are insulated enough that with my napsack I rarely if never crack the heat in the winter. Excellent for camping, of course, but not sure how it would perform in the salt.... the fashion level is a choice thou. haha

Some days it is warmer off shore due to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream warming the surrounding air. Left the dock in Ocean City Md the other day in 25 degrees, 10 miles off it was 40, another 10 miles east it was over 50.

I support this channel because the lumber was sourced on your own farm and because you had a passion to build a boat and sail wherever you want to however I don't support someone raping the land and selling off the lumber for profit I think that time is over there are so many other ways to build a boat economically and sustainably like you said it takes a lot of maintenance and more lumber if you want to keep a boat afloat there are so many millionaires and billionaires out there but for no reason but to waste it they don't care where the lumber comes from or what it takes to sustain a equilibrium obviously I'm an environmentalist and I realize that the resources are limited do the ability of the land to recover and if you take too much old growth out of a forest it will never recover okay maybe in a couple hundred years but that's longer than I want to wait for people to realize that they go too far with their riches and their wealth just because you can doesn't mean that it's right
