Boat Longline (Insurance 😁)

We set a longline as it was a bit sloppy first thing out west for the kids,
We dropped it then went for a shallow troll for tuna, we only got hammered by Kahawai & couldn’t get away from Dolphins.
Longline came up trumps though & we picked up 6 more Gurnard, 4 snapper & 10.000 Kahawai on the rods afterwards.

Sorry mate I missed your comment. Yeah it’s a good backup if the fishing is slow. Not sure on the rules for different countries on using them but it’s 25 max hooks per boat here in NZ 👍

one difference I see here,we tend to fish ours horizontally,you seem to be running vertical.which is interesting.though I don't have oceans by me either lol.well just seems like it's vertically deployed.you got some deep water there lol

Yeah mate this was about 45m from memory. It does lie along the bottom once you release the end sinker on the rope & float 🤙.

hey do you use brick @ one end longline anchor and floating container on the other end how long is the rope thanks might give this a try

Yep, weigh down both ends so it lies along the bottom. I have a few different length Rope’s depending on what depth I’m fishing then I allow an extra 5m for swells. You can carry a much longer rope than the depth your fishing and just tie off the extra rope under the buoy, don’t leave heaps of extra rope laying on the surface

@@MekeBeats yep any weight will do. I just use the grapple weight to hold the line in place a bit more, you can get big currents out west

You can just buy a long line kit from your local fishing tackle shop (fish city etc) that comes with everything you need. Main line is about 300lb, hooks 5’s or above & every second space between crimps to put on the main line

Thanks Mark, I’m not sure about the exact brand but you can pick up the full longline system from a fish city etc, or just the spool & make your own line etc
