But of course, I have watched you many times as you have been sailing so competently. Your dad has to be bursting with pride at all os your sailing and other water accomplishments. We also have two Beagles, although Cooper maybe a Harrier. Just fro his size 48 lbs.and 24 inches at the shoulder. We adopted him from Beagle Paws St. John’s Newfoundland. He is 2-1/2 years old. We also have Ryker who we adopted from the same place. He is 12 and gradually loosing his hearing, but his nose works so all is good. I could not imagine sailing long distances with Beagles! My hat is off to both of you. May the wind be at your back and fair seas.😀😀🐾🐾

Great video!!! I have a Columbia C45 in long beach CA. I made a couple modifications that might help you guys. First, I plumed a y-valve in my bathroom sink drains. In one position, it goes overboard as normal. In the second position, it goes into the toilet to fill the bowl. I was surprised on how much water I saved by reusing the sink water to flush toilets. And, I swear my black tanks smell better with toothpaste in them!!!! Second, I put a saltwater foot pump and faucet on my sink to do dishes. Its on its own dedicated line so it keeps saltwater out of the rest of the pipes. I wash with saltwater, then rinse with fresh. It really saved a bunch of water. Lastly, i put my showers on their own dedicated 12v water pump that is wired to a foot switch in the shower. When you step on the foot switch, the pump turns on and water comes out. Its only running when you need it. It really saved a lot of water. I cant lie, I got the shower idea from the youtube channel "sailing uma". None of these things may sound like a lot, but you would be surprised how much water it saved. I only have a 100 gallon water tank. With family and friends onboard, I would have to run the water maker every couple of days. After the changes, I only had to run it once per week. With just me sailing, I actually worry about the watermaker membranes going bad bad because i only need to run the watermaker every 3weeks. I started rinsing my boat with fresh water lol. If you ever find yourself on the west coast, message me and Ill take you guys for some fun in the Pacific!!!!
@SailingTheFarSide3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tips! We have a salt water foot pump and faucet that’s always been on the boat, but we never use it because it causes the pipes to go bad quicker. We’ve thought about reconnecting it, but we’ve managed pretty well so far. With 4 people of board we use 50-60 gal a week. But the foot water pump in the shower is definitely something we do want to install. That seems like a great bonus!!

You have probably the longest lasting engine ever built in the ship. This diesel was used in the almost legendary /8 and W124 diesel Mercedes Benz, which was extremely popular with German cab companies. Mileages of at least 500,000 km (which corresponds to more than 50,000 operating hours) without major repairs are actually considered completely normal. I myself had a vehicle that I sold with almost 800,000 km to an old friend. That was over 20 years ago. This old friend drives the, now completely renovated vehicle, still as a "summer everyday car" and clears with it at classic car meetings again and again cups. All this still with the old engine. This had to get replaced in the meantime an add-on parts (alternator, water pump), but the actual engine has never been opened since he left the factory at that time. 5 years ago he has exceeded the 1.000.000 Km with it and reaches still the indicated maximum speed (even if one should not demand this actually any more and above all also not often should make). So if you pay a little attention to this gem (regular oil changes, warm up before you demand power), then the engine should still do its job for decades! As you can see from the rest of your ship, your father knew what he was doing and chose the best and longest lasting equipment available at the time. I think you can hand over the ship so (with proper care) to your children without any problems ... or to the grandchildren when the time comes ;-) Greetings from Germany (and no, Lederhosen, pretzels and beer are not typical for Germany... well, maybe beer is ;-) )

Thanks for the great tour ladies! The Far Side is looking great! She is so well appointed, I love all the teak details. I am so impressed by your confidence and knowledge! Two questions, does the added weight in the stern affect her performance and does your back get tired leaning over that tiny helm? Fair winds and following seas!
@SailingTheFarSide3 жыл бұрын
Have to be confident in your knowledge about a boat if your planning on going cruising with it! The boat weighs 42,000 lbs so a few hundred pounds doesn’t make too much of a difference. Haha yah a little 😋 We only navigate with the helm in and out of channels and anchorages. Otherwise we use autopilot or set the wheel, we have hydronic steering, so we don’t have to lean down to it for very long
