Like RV's The seller can ask... They are often WAY over JD Powers estimates. The economy ISN'T going to improve in a hurry. It's a buyers market, They just need to get informed.

The crash actually was in full swing by July 2024. But dealers had made so much $ during the COVID buyer madness. The dealers held inventory prices up far longer than they should have. We bought a never commissioned 2023 that was close to $100,000 lower than any other listed same boat even used!! In the US in July. Even today if I were to sell it I’d be 100k less than any other listing with less than 100hrs on it. The issue is the money hangover from the COVID profits that motivated dealers to hold prices way to high for way to long

Lots of boomers jumped on the RV and Livaboard wagons in the pandemic and now they are not using them. RV and boats have ongoing storage and maintenance expenses that many people don’t think about long term. Especially if you don’t know how to do anything yourself. Makes a boat even more expensive.

Been looking to buy a boat for the last 3 years. New boats no matter what boat all are extremely over priced. Turned to look at used boats that are 3 - 5 years old- same story most all priced way high because I am guessing the new market is high that used market is holding in line. With the Quality of new boats in a major tail spin,interest rates high, consumer wages, inflation, Crazy service costs - the dealers charging high prices and the quality of the repairs poor. The boat market will be really bad for the next few years and the time to buy again might have to wait. The next two years will tell if this boat ownership can ever get back to even 50 percent of what it was in the past. Drove by Tracker boat manufacturing location in Missouri and couldn’t believe how much inventory they can’t ship to dealers because dealers can’t sell them either. This is not going to change for sometime maybe years…

agree on every point. More important than the inventory stacking up at the boat yards, look at the inventory stacking up in the auto lots. Same story....dealers stacking up enormous inventory trying to sell a Jeep at $85K or a Bronco at $100K, with no buyers. 200+ days of inventory on hand. And now in the past few weeks we read about THOUSANDS of layoffs in the auto manufacturers - GM, Stellantis, Ford. But it is going to take a full year to erode inventory. When folks are out of work, they aren't buying a boat. And if they have a boat, they're going to be looking to offload it to buy groceries. So Matt's viewpoint in early November that people aren't dumping their COVID boats might be about 3 or 4 months premature on where this might actually be headed.

Just got a 2023 26ft DC With twin 200 YAMS twin Garmin’s outriggers and a ton of upgrades for 50% off what it was going for brand new . I watched it sit on the lot by my house . Went and looked at it . Just kept waiting and waiting. Finally the owner of the dealership called me and asked what can he do to get me in the boat . I low balled the hell out of him just for the hell of it not thinking he would say yes . Is it 2 years old ? Technically it is but 1 hour on each motor with warranty’s I’ll take it over paying $200k for the 2025

most of the boat dealers around me are still in the fantasy stage where the next sucker is just about to walk in the door and over-pay for a new boat. I would never buy a new boat nor would I buy at 2022 prices. These guys are going to go out of business before they move these new boats.

My wife and I had found a brand new boat at FLIBS 2024, and were in the process of getting financing. After Trump got elected, we have opted to wait one year, until 2025, for interest rates to drop and people to start trading in boats that are only a few years old.

@@SwitchbackXThunter Whatever your point is, you do not sound like you own a boat or have ever owned a boat, of any type or size. fyi most folks in the car culture, RV culture, boat culture world help each other out and try and keep others from buyer's remorse or expensive repairs. You do not sound like you may know this with that snark. I rescue boats (and RVs) like some folks rescue shelter animals. I pay a fraction of what the new buyer paid. Same with RVs. Boats and RVs are not assets so why would you finance one unless you are buying it "seller financed" or some other creative financing? In current market of values going down, I would be finding a distressed owner/seller and buy it well below market or get them to carry a note or both. If shopping for a plane, RV, boat before you take possession is to know where you are going to park it and how much that expense is going to be if it is not a place you already own. You are welcome.

I have spent my entire life on the water as a Captain and currently own several boats. I am in the market for one specific type and one specific reason for it. The boat buying market, new or used, is in a constant state of free fall and is always a “buyers market”. If you’re going to purchase a non-trailerable boat, before buying, research the local area for marinas for available slip space and dockage rates. As always, “ Caveat Emptor”!

If my local dealer does not have the new 2023 or 2024 I am looking to buy and I can buy one from another dealer a couple of hundred miles away, will my local dealer be motivated to provide warranty and maintenance services to me? Or will find trouble getting service from the local dealer?

I know that in upstate ny if you didn't buy it there don't even think about bringing it there for service. Alot of dealers will laugh at you for even asking. I bought a boat 5 hours away with a dealer 40 minutes away because of selection. So far I've been lucky to not have many problems and my dealer has been incredible about the problems that I have had

If a dealer in NY sells a boat to someone who lives and boats in TX is selling a boat out of territory (they have defined zip codes where they can sell). So the dealer in TX will NOT be super excited to work on that boat in most situations

You can talk to your local dealer about it. It's not unheard of to work out a deal but typically not the norm.

Look for inflation to return in 2025/26.Tariffs increases will push all prices higher leading to higher interest rates down the road. The next 2 years will bring about economic challenges the market has never seen. People are expecting prices to fall under the new administration, unfortunately that isn’t going to happen unless there is a major depression. In my opinion if you can afford to buy and afford the total cost of ownership buy no later than mid January. The so called soft landing is going to be more of a train wreck.

The economy is going to get worse if Trump implements his tariff plan. They estimate that electronics will go up 30 to 60 percent (mobile phones, TV's , home entertainment systems, marine electronics etc..). Appliances 25%, Whirlpool just closed their last facility and moved to Mexico. Cars 10 to 15 percent as most parts come from Mexico and Asia. Clothes and shoes15 to 60pecent. I realize he is trying to get goods to be made in the USA but we need a balance. Goods produced in the US cost 25 to 50 percent more. Are salaries going to increase to cover the cost? No, our disposable income will just keep getting smaller. The RV industry is a good indicator of the amount of disposable income available to the consumer. For the homes we build, lumber, foundation steel, nails, roofing, pex plumbing pipe, electrical wire, rolled steel for metal roofing, gutters and downspouts', sheet metal for HVAC along appliances, cabinets, flooring, countertops will increase again in price. It's amazing how much material to build a home comes from other countries.
