Galeon is a new brand to this channel so I was happy to have this opportunity to discover the Galeon 440 with diesel shaft drive Volvo's.
The impression I was left with after a full day aboard was that this design was done by someone who thinks deeply about how you are going to use the spaces onboard. This is a real floating weekender with many clever ideas for a family that intends on using this as their summer holiday home or Friday to Sunday weekend base.
It's not all great and I discuss some of the ideas I wasn't so hot on over on my Patreon Channel but overall if you are looking for a non-traditional looking boat that is very forward thinking in their approach to design then this could be the pick for you!

Dan, at 25:47 the water is stunningly clear, what an amazing resource! Reviewing Galeons 440, instead of the usual 52+ boat, still has the same extremely clever design philosophy with the owner's ease of use, in mind. Although, I prefer a galley that you can wedge yourself into, (for rough seas) not quite this open, thanks for your usual comprehensive... tour

I’ve been following Galeon for years (love them) but TBH I think you should have been given a different (better?) spec of boat to review e.g. a galley aft layout means you get large sliding windows at the back of the saloon that makes a bar area on the starboard side that includes stools and a drop bar on the outside of the boat being served from the aft galley (which makes the drop-balcony make far more sense). Also this means that you have dining area to the back that can morph into an outside coffee area on the port side of the balcony. And having the galley aft makes a better forward indoor lounge area IMO (and that also includes reversible helm seats). They also do rotating cockpit seating (which is very very cool). I could go on……. the boat that you reviewed would definitely not be the way I would spec a 440 but hey ;-) Cheers for the great review! (P.s. you cal also spec the kids bunk room to be an office space (which I love)). P.p.s I think there is also an option for seating on the forward deck rather than pads (but that might only start at around the 460 upwards - worth it IMO)

Interesting about the office space! I would totally go for that! I don’t actually know anyone from Galeon yet so this was organised by some mates at Argo Yachting in Mallorca whom I know. When the time comes I’m sure the factory will make some more models available to test as this is a very interesting brand!

Gorgeous boat and im a huge fan of galeon but i cant help feeling that the brown upholstery on the loungest looks a little loose and wrinkled at some points and could be a concern for the long term wear and tear. Not that it would be enough to deter a purchace because its a lovely boat for sure.

if you like a Swiss Army Knife boat have a look at the Galleon 510 Sky, its got a small fly bridge with a one touch automatic fly bridge cover but more options than you can shake a stick at. ps love the reviews

Another great tour, Dan 👍 While i welcome Galeon's innovations, i often think they try to pack too many in for real-world use. Re: Fold out decks that are on so many new boats now, i never see them being used after that initial tryout, not even at the sand bar. Am i right? I get told i have to have them for resale, though... 🤦🏻‍♂️

For example I couldn’t be bothered putting the safety rails in place so you have a point. I think they are definitely doing some very intelligent thinking in terms of design. But maybe the future of design will involve more feedback from more boat owners. Because personally the less mucking about I need to do the more likely I’m going to operate/use the feature. I’m thinking clears for example…

Galeon 450 HTC is same boat without the flybridge and if you want fly with full (electric) cover then go for the 510.

Not good - i cover that in my Patreon video actually. This is one of the compromise you make with big hull windows. Solution is to be very considerate of your fender positioning.

the lights do flicker, it simply not noticeable by the human eye without the help of a camera. So whenever you get this you can put up a capture saying "you won't notice this flicker IRL". But I mean at this point in our age, we in 2024, if people aren't aware of this by now. Then let them be unaware god sake 🤣

I’ve since discovered more settings in my camera (thanks to you guys educating me in the comments) so I think I’ve managed to stop the flicker in all my recent videos 🙏🙏🙏 It’s so annoying when I spend 14hrs filming and then the bloody flicker shows up 😅🤯

Rocking and interfering LED with the camera unfortunately. There was a big storm a few days before this and lots of water movement still left over that was sloshing around. Also I don’t actually have a cameraman so every video is a new operator and I just coach them on the go.

Guess it’s a up to personal preferences. I like it a lot and prefer it over glossy surfaces or exotic materials other luxury brands use. It’s nothing fancy, but should work really well for daily use. I’m sure Galeon offers alternatives though.
