I have 2 -ticket stubs from the game they honored Campy. My grandparents went and my Grand ma had the tickets tucked in her vanity mirror when she passed away. I was lucky enough to meet Campy and he took a pic with my 4 year old daughter on the old Staium club level, who is 30 today. Also, sat right next to Casey Stengel in 1971 the day they retired Campy's number with Koufax and Jackie. I was 10. He signed my program 3 times and for everyone who kept coming up to him. He was 90. Had seats on the same club level directly in between Ross Porter and Don Drysdale. Annie had kids around the same age as mine and they would play together. I was there when they honored Don. She had the only video recorder in the entire Stadium. She was recording and we were crying Met Lasorda many a time, including twice last year. Always a great guy. Man, I've' had some life LOL

Fantastic story; We all still hurt for Mr. Campanella, but, it would be great if this nation could unify as magnanimously as was done here. God Bless America, God Bless Roy Campanella. This is compelling viewing; Growing up in NYC in the 1960's and 1970's, my father and grandfather would always talk about the Brooklyn Dodgers, and, Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson, and, the Bums...Such a tragedy to befall Mr. Campanella, May he rest in peace.❤❤

#1 I'm 10 and listening to Vin Scully announce that 6th Drysdale shutout. Mom and Dad came home to our Los Angeles suburb house after voting for RFK, turned on the TV to watch the live California primary results. That's when we saw it. There is no TV delay back then for local Los Angeles networks. Mom, my sisters crying. Me asking why Rosie Grier (his bodyguard) tackled the man (Sirhan Sirhan.) #2 How ironic and yet so cool that Marichal would want to play on the Dodgers. He did well because I saw him pitch in person in a Dodger uniform at Dodger Stadium. The man admitted his horrible mistake. Like you're perfect? I can remember once seeing Roy Campanella up close at the game and also Don Drysdale right there just a few feet from me running from the booth between innings to pee.

Greatest historic rivalry in the history of baseball - Dodgers/Giants whether it be the beginning of the sport, the middle of the 20th century or the Western years. Stunning actually, in my opinion, that the American League fans of the Northeast swear it's Boston/Yankees or the midwest fan saying it's Cubs/Cardinals.

So good to be able to get past the PC stuff and just watch the baseball content

I was able to attend that night in the coliseum even though I had no idea who Roy Campanella was at the time. The spectacle made me and everyone around us cry

I used to have Juan Marichal's card flapping in the spokes of my bicycle. Too young and dumb to know.

the noise you made rounding the corner was well worth whatever value that card held, John. :)

wiedep and to mention a politician who was assassinated in the city where Drysdale’s (who was a friend of RFK) streak occurred is too political?
