That was the whole thing he seemed arrogant because if the press or the audience pays you a compliment they expect gratitude for their praise. The media is used to being able to make or break a star but he was more self made just doing his own thing then they were furious he was middle classes and well educated not actually a poor beatnick except by his own choice to be too what should he owe them an apology for being intelligent and successful I think that's what they wanted to demand of him.

He was well aware of the game but he still had to play it anyway. Had he chosen not to do the press briefings they would have said that he’s aloof. It’s a case of being damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

Why is it that they were only idiots when they asked Dylan questions? Elvis was magnitudes greater a star than Dylan, and he treated interviewers with respect and answered their questions. It's not difficult to do. In fact, it takes less energy to just answer a question in a straight-forward manner than it does to play the games he plays.

He enjoyed being on the edge. He rode in on the coat tails of the protest movement (as he said in the no direction home documentary) so you shouldnt be suprised if people keep identifying you as a protest singer. He was a beat poet who initially used folk- style format as a vehicle ambiguously... looked like one but wasn't. He wasnt a protest singer but he was a defiant singer and founded his identity on having no identity. He was pretty lost really.

It mean's he's not going to tell them what his original name was, and he doesn't see any good reason why he should, because it's none of their business. It also sounds like an ordinary Eastern European or maybe a Polish or Russian name which could easily be Jewish also....so it fits his real family origins, while being funny at the same time. Technically speaking, it means "son of Kniz" or perhaps "son of Kniza", because the "vich" part on the end is a suffix that means "son of"........just like "Johnson" means "son of John" and "Robertson" means "son of Robert" in the English culture.

I would venture to say that when Bob Zimmerman (Dylan) was growing up, music became a place of escape for him, and he likely did not know that it also became a conduit that put him into an Altered State of Consciousness (ASC). And when you're channeling a "muse," there's no real ownership of what you've created - you're just a host & instrument yourself -- and if you're someone who strives to be true to yourself, it would be hypocritical to take credit for something that you know you didn't really create. To do so would necessitate being a phony, and, if nothing else, Dylan did not want to be a phony...could not be a phony! That is what I believe we witnessed from this young man in this interview -- a simpleton, in reality, inspired by a transcendent spirit (or spirits) that made him a "savant," and he likely felt like two different people -- perhaps more...perhaps as many personalities as the songs he had written during this specific time of his life...songs that he would never be able to write again because he would eventually part company with his "source(s)" of inspiration. So, he mastered the art of distraction by deflection with quick-witted, whimsical, and often non-sensical statements -- gibberish, really -- talking a lot, but really saying nothing at all...being committed to being non-committal -- being evasive at every turn -- and this he had to do in order to preserve what was left if his own center of integrity -- wanting to remain true to himself and not being a phony. It allowed him to be free from claiming to be someone he wasn't -- free from having to apologize for being found out that he was not who people thought he was -- or wanted him to be -- because he cleverly never claimed to be someone he wasn't. "Savant" --> "a person who has an exceptional aptitude in one particular field, such as music or mathematics, despite having significant impairment in other areas of intellectual or social functioning."

The hippies ( Bob Dylan would have been considered by the conservatives a hippy) weee either loved or hated. Because they were so passionate and righteous about social rights for women and people of color, and the Vietnam War ending. and ecology (because even then the earth and all of it’s inhabitants were being abused. So this guy was clearly a hippy hating conservative. Poor beautiful Bobby. I liked how he just made up a number.
