Lyrics:
Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore
It's gettin' dark, too dark to see
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Such a powerful song, Bob Dylan at his best. I listened to him during the 60's in high school. My older brother Mike loved his music as well. Last year my brother knocked on heavens door and went inside. Rest in peace dear brother, until we meet again in heaven.

In memoriam of my friend John from England. I saw him first time in the Berlin subway where he played "knockin on heavens door" with his old guitar and only three strings on it. He loved and lived Bob Dylan, his greatest treasure was a Dylan songbook. He always got the people who listened to him in a minute and he made seldom less than 100,- in two hours. Then he spent it all for beer to forget the pain in his soul for the rest of the day, falling asleep under bridges.

One of the DEEPEST MYSTERIES of CREATION - "WHAT is "THE BRAIN" It contains our 'MEMORIES" - of our FIRST LOVE - our FAVORITE SONG - our FOURTH BIRTHDAY PARTY, OUR first PLANE RIDE - our FIRST VOYAGE on an OCEAN LINER - A Lifetime of MEMORIES . Then, put your hand into your inside pocket and there's a MAP for the ROAD AHEAD and it's all in the HANDS OF GOD, CLOSE YOUR EYES, say THANK YOU LORD, then say 'I'M READY my LORD" - THE DOOR is OPEN - on a WING and a PRAYER - ARCHANGEL MICHAEL has your hand - he loosens his grip and you are suddenly FLYING - into your DESTINY!

I lost my baby brother, I know the heart ache, all’s I can say is that God better be there for us to be together again. It’s so hard to have faith when there’s children and little animals suffering so horribly everywhere. Without faith we have nothing so I’ll take my faith and keep praying.

Guys, this song really isn't about being too old to do the things you used to and slowly making your way back to God, leaving behind all the things that defined you in your mortal life. That is a really nice interpretation of it as well imo, but it really is about the scene from the movie it comes from. A lawman gets shot and as he slowly stumbles his way to a rock to look off into the sunset; his wife follows him and can't bear to embrace him, she just falls to the ground out of of his reach, looking at him with tears in his eyes. He looks at her shocked, afraid and as if to say 'sorry'. She gives a sad smile. He acknowledges it, still afraid, and looks back towards the sun.
