Me and Donovan show the same emotion when hearing Dylans craft. Admiration mingled with disassociation. He's not like the rest of us.

Correct me if i am wrong but i first saw this scene in Don't look back but the edit made the viewer thought that Dylan destroyed (with a smile :D) Donovan. For me, it was one of the highlights of the film! But i fact, in a longer version, it's donovan who asks bob to sing this song and bob was happy to do it!

My love she speaks like silence Without ideals or violence She doesn't have to say she's faithful Yet she's true, like ice, like fire People carry roses And make promises by the hours My love she laughs like the flowers Valentines can't buy her In the dime stores and bus stations People talk of situations Read books, repeat quotations Draw conclusions on the wall Some speak of the future My love she speaks softly She knows there's no success like failure And that failure's no success at all The cloak and dagger dangles Madams light the candles In ceremonies of the horsemen Even a pawn must hold a grudge Statues made of match sticks Crumble into one another My love winks, she does not bother She knows too much to argue or to judge The bridge at midnight trembles The country doctor rambles Bankers' nieces seek perfection Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring The wind howls like a hammer The night blows rainy My love she's like some raven At my window with a broken wing This is real poetry!

Neither can I, there are many clips on KZbin, longer than this. Poor Donovan didn’t know at the time, that people 50 years later could watch this fantastic show, on a gigantic TV. In our homes. I don’t believe in mercy talk. Bob was amazingly good, Bob shall not feel guilty cause he’s brilliant. It’s the naked truth, Donovan was pretty lame, his choice to compete. Look at the English men when Donovan sings, look when Bob sings.it’s very easy to recognize the Englishmen. Just look at their hair. The American guy, sitting on the floor smiles when BD is on the guitar..Some people says , that Bob should have done a simpler performance ! No no, no that had been dishumanitet. Bob wasn’t cruel, he just did his songs. ENCORE 🌺🌸🌹to Bob

The middle age guy with the comb over is Derroll Adams, a folk singer who took Donovan under his wing and influenced him to a degree in American traditional music. Donovan wrote a song, "Epistle To Derroll", which is on his album ''A Gift From a Flower to a Garden''.

This is an epic encounter between Dylan and Donovan . In this documentary shows newspaper headlines comparing both musicians . A lot has been written about this , Donovan begin to play '' To sing for You '' while Dylan applauds the song saying '' It's a great song '' , but with his eyes fixed on the guitar . After Donovan finishes playing, Dylan promptly gets up from his seat and goes over to take the guitar from Donovan's hands . The scottish gave it not very convinced , but little else could do to the effusiveness of Bob , and innocently asks for a song he wished to hear ... Dylan begins to sing It's All Over Now , Baby Blue and then links with this one , Love Minus Zero , leaving those presents half hypnotized with his performance ... Today we can see with a little more perspective than then , and if we follow what Donovan has done throughout his career , I think the ''envy'' that he could feel for Dylan would not be justified . Donovan is a great musician (Lennon himself learned some guitar technical resource from him) , the problem was that he never shake all the folkie aura that made him famous , very unlike Dylan who made it very clear even when he was at the top of his popularity. Perhaps here Donovan shows a ''healthy envy'' ....... Who does not if u have in front a genius that turns into gold everything that composes ???

Lennon was not a great guitar lead. George Harrison played lead guitar in the Beatles and taught Lennon much more over time, although Lennon would pretty much remain a great rhythm guitar player. Donovan never had the guts to go electric like Dylan did -- he would lose all his old fans and was afraid he wouldn't gain new fans. Dylan had no such fear.

Haha, looks like it in the film. Actually, this is Dylan's guitar. He played it at all his concerts in 1964-1966. Might look different because of the lighting. It's a 1920s Gibson Nick Lucas Special. Beautiful works of art. They go for upwards of 30 thousand dollars nowadays.
