As I said to my sister, "I don't really understand the Jewish concept of heaven and hell, but I hope I'm allowed to spend my eternity in the presence of a conscience like Bob Dylan." I hope that in death as in life I continue to pray for a better world where we see each as individuals and not as class or they or them. What is it the country song?? We're all in the same boat!

We see that atheist are NEVER rational, provide any evidence of their crazed positions, or have any decency or civility. Of course there is objective truth and God sets the standards of right and wrong. To say otherwise is to have lost touch with reality. Secular Humanist/atheist contend that all truth is "relative." If so, is that statement relatively true or absolutely true? If relatively true then there is absolute truth because they are not certain that truth is not absolute. If absolutely true then there is absolute truth. UH OH, trapped by their own nonsensical "belief" system. So, there is absolute truth. To have absolute truth there has to be a pre existent God to set that standard as mankind is inconsistent. Therefore, truth IS NOT subjective or "lies within the individual human." Truth is objective and set by God. Game, set, match. FYI-Being crude and attacking the truth provider is not a good look for anyone.

In the meantime, maybe ask yourself why you feel compelled to tell a bunch of strangers on the Internet why they're wrong to like some musical act. Interesting song. Dylan musing about what would happen right after the Rapture when all the faithful have been taken up. Those that are left would be given one last chance to accept Christ and the word would go out all over the world that this is it --- you either get onboard now or the flames await you. His idea is all the old saints would return to bear witness. This would be for a short time when the world would be 'on its side' and the bride of Christ would be walking backwards. Bob has quite an imagination as most of this is not accepted by the Church but is part of the doctrine of Dispensationalism in which this period Bob refers to would last 7 yrs and would be followed by the last judgement.
@woolhall5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Pat for that interesting and educated view. Very enlightening
@tomasramirez49853 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think Bob is preaching in this song. I think he is just telling us what he sees. He is also being quite critical of religion (Christ' bride, the church, running backwards). He also equalizes the heathens with the saints, which is quite a thing. And it's not "his idea" that the saints would return to bear witness, that is written in the book of revelations. Then, I think your interpretation of the lyrics is completely wrong. What he puts in the present, you force it into the future.

Dylan is a powerful author of lyrics, and the Nobel Committee may have been correct when they deemed him a major poet. He is an adequate composer of melodies in the country-folk tradition, who has not progressed much over the course of his very long career. But he is not a good singer. 50 years ago, the NYT and Rolling Stone blamed that on his chain smoking. I believe that he stopped smoking decades ago, but his singing did not much improve. I came to respect Dylan the composer thanks to Joan Baez's covers of some of his early songs, and Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watch Tower. The following essay, by an avowed atheist, argues that we should take seriously the Christian Bob Dylan. That phase tells me that Dylan is deeply anchored into the American rural heritage. The middle aged Dylan became a sort of Messianic Jew, a mindset that is richly American. Only yesterday did I learn that Dylan was secretly married for some years to a black woman gospel singer. www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/bob-dylans-soulful-christian-phase/
