In answer to the question ‘what happens when you don’t ’make it’ in music, as I suppose applies to me - always having been engaged in musical pursuits but it only ever resulting in a quarter of my income or so. The thing that many people don’t realise is that the music is its own reward. Yes, we have to pay the bills but we’re blessed to be able to pick up a guitar or sit at a piano and escape to this magical place. It’s almost like a secret language that can be applied anywhere in the world and can transcend geography, race, gender and class. Applying one’s musicality in a band setting creates brotherhoods and sisterhoods which resonate almost like a family. As Bob says, it’s difficult now to make a living as a musician with venue managers saying ‘play for exposure’… try saying that to a plumber or an electrician! I have been ‘poor’ most of my life but wouldn’t swap the riches that being a musician brings for anything. Thanks for a thoroughly engaging conversation.

Rory. I truly love listening to you but despite everything you have done I still don't think you realise how much you have. A milti millionaire, you can afford to do whatever you like. You seem to have a lovely family, your are an intellect but you will never be poor and despite where you have been you do not truly know what poverty and struggle is in the true sense. That said I have the utmost respect for everything you do and Bob Geldof

That was an interesting conversation between two very different men, both of whom I admire, and wish there were more like them in politics; but sadly men like them get squeezed out for having a moral backbone. This too shall pass eh!
