I have total respect for Mr Hope ! Whether you liked him or not, he was there along with Racquel Welch and another young lady to try and entertain the young troops that day. I didn't get a chance to see his show while I was in Vietnam because my area of operation was extremely too close for their troop to take a chance of losing their lives. But I applaude him for his devotion to bring a smile on those young soldier's faces ! I am very proud of his action's ! Rest In Peace Mr. Bob Hope !

(Thanks for the memory); lady asks Bob and man with a cane to remove a bat that flew into her flat. They enter the flat. Man with cane; "so where's this bat?" Lady; "I don't know." Man with cane to Bob; Ok, where would you hide if you were a bat? Bob Hope; "You're thinking of a horse!" 😂😂😂❤🤣🤣🫡

I was an ambulatory patient at the 1967 DaNang Christmas show at Freedom Hill. It was a great show, but the end of the show was something I will never forget. Over 10,000 lonely guys singing Silent Knight in harmony. I still choke up whenever I hear that song and remember that moment. A lot of those guys aren’t here to remember the beautiful memory of that moment of brotherhood.

Agreed. Hope's entertaining was a valuable service to those in theatres of war. His generation understood on a deep level the responsibilty to serve society. Morale is crucial to those that are defending principles such as freedom, especially when they are risking their futures and their lives.

When I look at these shows, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m looking in the faces of brave, radiant young men who SHOULD have had their entire lives ahead of them. This is one of MANY conflicts that our country should not have been in. To be able to see this recording taking place during such a pivotal time in world history is fascinating to say the least. You’re looking in the faces of many people in that audience who didn’t make it. But they were there for a special moment in time, that only TRUE entertainers can create. An oasis in a time of peril. For all of the suffering to come, a fleeting moment of joy. It’s the sacrifice of men like these who make it possible for us to argue over the silliest things that don’t even matter, freely. All people care about now are themselves. God bless that era of entertainers and humanity. We will NEVER see the likes of it again.

Those men were willing to fight and die to stop Communism. Today Communism has taken our country from within, and where are those who are willing to fight and die to stop it? They are nowhere to be found. In 1964 I joined the Marines to go fight Communism in Vietnam. It's time that the present generation step up to the plate. Since that won't happen, there is no other conclusion to come to but that the country is lost.

I think the most impressive thing about this is how informed Hope was. Most of his jokes were obviously just for these guys , I think that shows how important he felt this was. After watching him land on that carrier, I guess the fact that he risked his life to do these things , shouldn’t be overlooked.

@Ron Roast Thank you. A bit young to be stolen to "serve", (serve what? we did not know), but you see reality better than the guy who started this thread, (He got good grades in college I am sure). If we do not know we are fighting for the philosophies of individual liberty that created the USA exceptionally, than we have no idea what we were really fighting for. Thank God for Ann Rand. It is actually traceable that she ended the draft, (free people should not have their kids scooped up for war against their will, not freedom), with a friend of hers as an advisor for Nixon. I do thank you though man for your patriotism, (and glad you are here to tell a bit of your story, still living). I just wish we had patriots as your bosses. I think those patriots died after WW2.

@Ron Roast Not exactly, the years long effort definitely slowed the communist movement throughout the wider region, keeping countries like Thailand and Indonesia largely free of it. Whether that was worth the price is another question, but it definitely did have that effect.

I'm with you brother. I hit the 70 mark last Sep on Fri the 13th. Can't be that bad bc I'm still around hearing about Mick Jagger just having baby #8 and he's older than dirt. Feel about 50. No major issues. Had 28 Corvettes so far and hope to end the collection with at least 30. That started just before I got drafted with a 63 Split Window Coupe which I had to sell in a hurry bc LBJ would not take over the payments. Promptly got another SWC in 68 with my chump change Army savings when I got back to the world. It will all end soon but the memories will last forever via KZbin et al. That was a good show and life has been a good show. Now it's someone else's turn at all this.

My Dad was the Sr. Marine Corp officer coordinating the USO in da nang in '67. I was 5 yrs old at the time and convinced he would be killed.. He was behind the curtain during this show, which brings me to tears. He made lifelong friends with several of the celebrities on this tour. Some I can remember coming to our house for dinner after the war. He was one of the lucky ones that came home. I am so grateful to Bob Hope and the rest of the crew who came to entertain and bring joy to the troops, not all of whom were as lucky as we were to be reunited with loved ones at home. Dad always said that with one exception (who i wont name except to say it was not BH) the entire touring crew was gracious, sincere, and entirely genuine in wanting to do what they could to lift the spirits of the troops and help where they could..truly lovely spirits!

Just wow!!! ❤❤❤ The thought of Bob Hope risking his life and his teams to bring an ounce of JOY to soldiers during a heartbreaking war is amazing. I’ve had many Veterans, including my grandfather, tell me about these visits, wishing they could have seen these performances but were too far away, or talked about how it made them feel so good for a few hours. …. Thank God for all the troops, many just babies, from every military branch that severed during the Vietnam Era.

Bob Hope and all of those people who went on those USO Tours were outstanding.... It means so much to those Heros to know that we were still thinking of them back home and praying that they will be able to make it back safely... That meant so much to them to boost their Spirits and Morale that we cared for them and were always thinking of them... My brother Jim served in Viet Nam... He joined the Army in 1967, and came back home after his tour there was finished He completed his final 2 years serving at a Base in Northern Calif.... We were so happy to see him make it back home safely in 1968.I remember writing letters to him every week , telling him how things were going back home... At that time I was in 2nd grade, and I told him how our dog & cat were doing, how my class's at school were doing, how my goldfish was doing, our latest Halloween candy stockpile , and other really important stuff.... My Parents had us saying a pre- dinner prayer and they always included a request for GOD to look out for all of us and my brother there in Viet-Nam... My brother and I prayed every night for the safe return of my oldest brother Jim to make it back home safely , before going to sleep. My sisters were also doing that before they went to sleep... I remember my parents who were so worried about hearing about the Tet Offensive, and could hear my Mother crying at night... Thankfully my brother made it back safely, but he seemed to be affected by what he witnessed there, and usually, He did not want to talk about it... These people who fought for us - faced another conflict when they got back home from the radically Leftist people in Calif. and other major cities in the U.S. .. We made sure to let my brother know that we were proud of his service... Later I joined the Marine Corps, and completed a 4-year enlistment , and after I got out, carried-on like my brother Jim did when he got out in 1970... Bob Hope , and those celebrities, who traveled with him, helped all of our people serving in Vietnam and other wars to get through it safely by letting them know the people back home appreciated them... God Bless those people who help to set-up those USO tours... Today is: 11/04/24

I came across this little gem and was immediately transported back to the 60's when all of our family gathered around the television to watch Bob Hope and company entertain our wonderful servicemen. RIP in peace Mr. Hope. Your dedication to our servicemen and women did not go unnoticed. Bob Hope was a national treasure. He was the Christmas gift that kept on giving. Thanks for the memories Mr. Hope.

Anyone who served, especially during wartime, remembers Bob Hope. I had the opportunity to see 3 of his shows in Anchorage Alaska where I served in the US Army in the 1960s. 2 of the shows were mini versions for a small group of GIs at the Nike Missile Bases around Anchorage. Since I worked on the Radars there, I had clearance to get into these shows. About 100 people in attendance and it was up close and personal. I will never forget those times. God bless Bob Hope wherever he is.

I saw Bob Hope at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina after the Western Carolina football game in 1983. He was 80 yrs old and honestly was kind of frail and not very funny. I understood the importance of this man as I watched him - He was really a legend and I'm so happy I got to see him in person. I just watched this entire video on his 1967 Christmas tour for the troops and found myself tearing up several times. He brought joy to men in combat, a pretty great thing.

I was at the Bob Hope Christmas show at Long Bihn in 1967 on Christmas day. I had Guard duty on Christmas eve so I couldn't go with most of the guys from our company that day. By the time I did get there on Christmas Day I was way up in the back and "nosebleed" seats. It was still such a thrill to be there. Racquel Welsh was actually lip sinking Linda Ronstat's (sp?) song (I found out later) but like others have said "who cared?" it was funny and very uplifting to most of us! Bob Hope was always a favorite of mind, but even more after that show! :)

I was training with the 135th Assault Helicopter Company and the full company went over on C130's from TX. Frank, my best early school buddy in Washington DC enlisted in the Army and went Infantry. He was KIA just one month after in-country. They named a city park after him in Worcester MA.

To take these beautiful young men away from their families, for a lost cause. I'm crying as I write this. I lived thru this. It ruined my 19 year old brothers life.
