I have a crow call and I'll sometime copy a crow, repeating them exactly, while I'm fishing. If they caw three times I'll do it back, etc. Once a crow came over and led me in a count from one to eight and back down again. I thought OMG, it showing me that it can count! Then it tilted it's head and flew away. Soon I realized it was testing ME to see if I could count.

Thank you for the video. We were also blessed with a Raven, an unforgetable experience. He showed up one day last summer...I'd find him in the feed shed where he'd spent the night all snuggled in the hay. For Three months this young Raven came & went. He'd sneek into the chicken coop when the hens were out and steal the eggs. Later, I'd find the empty eggs in the feed shed where he enjoyed his snack. Now and then he'd dissapear, we assumed back to his family that hatched near by, being part of four siblings. A smart and funny bird, hopping behind me with short flights along the way to the house. One day he came out of the chicken coop with an egg... I laughed and said "where are you going with that?" with potential bone crushing strength, his gentle grip was delicate, he softly placed the egg on the ground and hopped away with a flight back up on the fence. They are indeed a smart and majestic creation - I'm thankful daily for the simple yet deep joys we get to experience and acknoledge when they become a part of our journey. I sense God sends them our way in the right moments & seasons.... angels of comfort sent from above (Yaweh).

Young ravens spend years with their direct Family Clan. Thane, the young Raven with whom I shared several years was the single most fascinating and challenging relationship I have ever developed with another species. I raised a Brewer's Blackbird. After the initial stages of him being confined to a cage in his very young days, I'd let him hang out in my backyard when I went to work. He'd always be back right when I got back, and during my time at work would fly to the nearby park. There he learned fear of humans. He didn't fear me, but sometimes when I'd go find him there'd be people trying to scare him away then amazed when he would fly to and land on me when I called his name. One time he came back with blonde hair tangled up in his feet. I'm guessing he landed on a woman's head and she freaked out because he'd land on mine all the time. It seemed like we had a psychic connection, he even knew not to hurt my parakeets. It was like owning an outdoor cat who obeyed commands like a dog but with no training. I think a windy storm knocked him out of his nest, because when I'd watch a movie or play a game while he was cuddling with me under my neck inside he'd get scared of the sound of wind. I taught him to fly just by dropping him, saved him from the cats in the neighborhood, and tried to teach him to kill and eat insects. In the end one day he stopped showing up at home. I was devastated until I saw that he had been accepted into a flock of Brewer's Blackbirds and seemed to have a girlfriend. He was a teenager still and hadn't fully developed his iridescent black plumage. He was the first wild bird I had and it was a total success reintroducing him. I didn't even try, he was so smart he did it himself. After that I never owned parakeets again. It's not right having birds in cages when they're smart enough to follow you around town.

Salt is bad for Ravens' kidneys. I am surprised that you gave him French Fries ? I feed Ravens 3 or 4 times a week at a park I give them unsalted nuts and fruits too. One that is very comfortable with me and eats out of my hand, I call Poe. Others eat out of my hand also, though Poe won't let the others eat, LOL. When I park my car in the park's lot, one always shows up to greet me, ( could be Poe). Follows me and lets other Ravens know I have arrived. In 2 minutes I am surrounded by 6 or 8 Ravens. I go for a short walk, before I feed them and they follow me. They also follow me back to my car until I drive away.

@theravendiaries 3 жыл бұрын
For the most part, I'm guessing you are correct. However, I live at the beach in So Cal and here, the wild ravens can't help but get salt in their diet. It naturally dries onto whatever washes up on the beach. Yet my birds seem to be living 20 to 30 years. But the fries we had gotten when we knew we were going to be giving the left overs to Huey were ordered unsalted, and perhaps I should have mentioned that? Love your story about your interaction with the birds. Kind of surprised they don't follow your car. BTW, what part of the world are you in?

@@theravendiaries I live in Southern California as well, in the Palm Springs desert vicinity . You are right, as the Ravens are scavengers and I see them hanging around fast food places for scrap. Lots of salt in these foods. I put a little healthier feed for them when I go for my walks and stop to feed them. Hope it will counteract a balance. I also on my way back to my car, put out a little bowl of fresher water, than the one in the duck pond. They have been drinking out of it. That is when they stick around until I carefully drive away. Sometimes, to answer your question about following my car, one or two may walk next to my car as I am driving away. Thank you for your videos nonetheless, love them. Because of this pandemic year plus, I have lost all my singing jobs, I am a professional club singer. These Raven and Duck feeding and contacts, have fill some of my restless hours. Very nice presentation to be sure. I do have to disagree on one statement you made. That would be animals are like God's living machines, and God made man to manage those machines. And the later is what I disagree with, because human kind are actually machines as well, and we humans have enough trouble managing ourselves let alone wildlife. Humans are actually computers. Think about it we have a large case to house our machinery. We have veins and arteries for cooling and repair, we have glands to supply water for cooling as well, we are powered by food, and our data processing is done by thousands of interconnected networks of nerves we call a nervous system which is connected to a central brain which processes and stores millions of electric data impulses daily. Bottom line we humans are computers. Great job on the Raven Documentary. I will leave you with a short story. In the 70's I entered a pet store in Palo Alto Ca. I entered through the back door and walked down a hallway that had a large room full of cages. As I'm walking all of a sudden I hear a loud voice say " I NEED ATTENTION" I'm thinkin what the heck. I turned around and walked back and there in a big cage sat what I was told was a Raven. That Raven said those words just as clear as any human. I know Ravens can learn many phrases and vocalizations and speak them clearly.

i have a theory that (some) animals could talk before the fall... "Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field that the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?’” The woman answered the serpent..." (Gen 3:1-2) If I had been in Eve's position, I would have responded, "Woah! A snake is taking!" but instead, Eve answers him, like it's normal....and Balaam's donkey...in Num. 22:28 says, "Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam..." The word "opened" in Hebrew means "to loosen" and is always used in the OT for things that once were but are no longer .... I believe that ravens used to speak and will speak again in heaven, along with some other animals/...WHAT"S YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS?...anyhoo! love your videos!

Hello Judith, if you read the notes below the movie, you'd notice this was a movie for kids so there are some dramatizations for effect. It is not a scientific doc. Yes, you are completely right, Bob was not "stupid" he was a mature bird who would never get used to human company. Huey was about 15 days old so he imprinted right away. Question, did you watch the whole thing? Cause I would think that concept should have come out in the message of the film also?

Corvids have an amazing vocabulary. What does that say about their intelligence ... about their ability to communicate with humans? I've noticed that crows tend to flock in odd numbers and that they rule they sky wherever they fly. Everybody gets quiet and hides when a red-tailed hawk sails over, except for magpies, who will singly harass a hawk untill it leaves the area. But whenever crows fly over, the sky is empty and only the crows are to be heard. Nobody, but nobody messes with the crows! I'm convinced that they have only one wing in the blue sky we see ... the other is in a different world altogether. They can only be sacred, like messengers from the other side.

Hey Raven Diaries, I've been following your channel for awhile now. I absolutely loved this video, your relationship with ravens is beautiful and it brought a tear to my eye. I also have a relationship with birds although it isn't as personal and intimate as you and your ravens, I'd say that I have a pretty good relationship with birds. For the last couple of years I've been feeding the California Scrub Jays unsalted peanuts still in the shell and they love them, every other day I'll throw a handful of peanuts on the oning above the back door to our backyard and they'll swoop down one by one collecting their peanuts, we grew accustomed hearing their little claws landing on the oning. Haha... Everytime their supply is low a scrub Jay will hold a peanut in their mouth to show us that want more peanuts (isn't that something? The scrub Jays can communicate to is through objects). We've been giving peanuts to the Jays since December of 2013. Other birds I feed just recently are hummingbirds, a friend from work gave me a small feeder and at the beginning there was one hummingbird (an Allen's) that'll come around, then we had 2 of them, then 3, just recently I bought 2 big feeders at Walmart and we have at least 7 hummies, mostly Allen's and a few Anna's. These birds are very special to me.

Thank YOU ! When I was a kid on a farm my brother and I found a very young down covered Great Horned Owl that had fallen out of the nest, you guessed it we had named him Hooey and for the next 3 years Hooey which was actually a female and very large as the females are was the roaming pet of the barn yard that was ALWAYS hungry, then one day she figured out how to get her own food like going to a city drive thru fast food restaurant , flying Into one big door of the hay barn and out the other with a mouse snack she would eat on the side of the cattle water trough. She too took great delight being close except big owls have big sharp talons they hold onto your shoulder arm with or she loved if your leg was propped she went for the leg every time she would greet you every time you walked out side then fly around proving just how superior owls were compared to humans, she loved to hear you talk to her and she would bring you a present out of the barn and did not understand why you didn't eat it and instead refused to eat it if you offered it back to her, crazy but just so interesting was the time Madam Hooey shared her time with us. the I guess she matured and would see her but not like before she started raising her own little owls in Our Barn which of course was really HER Barn she just let us hang out around it.

That was beautiful. It is God's confirmation to me that He speaks to us through His creation, especially His special gifts to us, His precious animals. When my daughter was living in London, we went to Stonehenge, and there was a crow there, that stayed on the same standing stone around the perimiter, the entire time we were there. So as we were leaving, I stopped and talked to him for a while. He looked directly at my eyes and very obviously was listening to me, trying to understand what I was saying. He never showed any fear, just watched me, turning his head from side to side, never taking his eyes off of me. He knew I wasn't a threat. When I was living with my other daughter , her landlord had horses, and they were the same. They would come over to me, and actually rubbed their heads on my shoulder, because they knew I wasn't a threat, even though I'd never had any experience with horses, and that I loved them. I know that animals, including our own pets, will be, and already are in heaven, waiting for us, having the time of their lives till we get there. They have perfectly innocent souls, as they're incapable of sin. I can't wait to see all my pets again, and run with the horses, and talk to all the animals, because they won't have to fear man, anymore.

From what I’ve watch not only on here but several other videos you can buy their favor buy feeding them. But remember what you have learned here. They are not tame even when they like you. On a video on KZbin they have a young girl that feeds them and they have brought her at least 100 “gifts” and continue to. A ravens memory is long on how you treat them and they are able to share this with their family of Ravens. I too would love a relationship with one or more. But I see the responsibility of it as well. I hope you as well as many more get to at least get a time of interaction. 😁💖

Lucky you, I'd love to have em roosting or better yet nesting in my backyard! As soon as Huey could fly he was free to come and go as he pleased. Huey ended up roosting, allowed close contact and playing with us everyday for 6 months. Now, we see him about 6 times a month but he will not allow anymore closeness as far as petting, touching or sitting on my arm. He's truly a wild bird, as he should be!

We love little in comparison to God, this is true, whose infinite love I slowly discover in life and as I worship Hm. What I have found in this relations to the God I love, is the more I long to see God's original creation, and that if we don't have the caregiver heart towards the animals as well as the plants, we would once again destroy this beautiful place. We do not breed fellow humans for the sake like animals do, of maintaining their perceived balance. Despite whether we need more individuals, if there be enough water or food, men are as addicted to flesh meats as to sex or is it the other way around? Meanwhile, if the women aborts this child, she knew and he knew how children are conceived. We had religion to help most of us live within reason and kicked it to the curb in order to be infinitely more selfish and cruel, even to our own kind. It is very sad. We had three children, I had no abortions. The pregnancies were planned. They are all grown now and all successful and able to support themselves. They are not trouble-makers but they are stuck with this notion of nothingness in their heads. Except for the one who had Autism and received a miraculous healing, he knows though he does not share his reasons why he believes, as the establishment of those who are likewise so programmed, would be sure to make his life hell, and one day his job would miraculously, disappear. So he holds his tongue. This is not freedom, it is the tyranny of a single mindset, as tyrannical as a religion who has exterminated all of its detractors. So this is out of balance as we are, who only know that control means cruelty and destruction. We destroy our own kind via abortion and see it as a merit badge of caring about the planet. But if my husband and I can know how to have and raise the number of children we wanted, it is not that difficult. We had and still have this relationship with God. In nature, all things are in balance apart from man. Yet, without intention, there are injuries, even in a perfect world. And that was man's original job, to not just tend the garden from which he ate, but to help the animals. This was when they did not fear and hate us, because we did not eat them. Some of us have discovered that we do quite well living on plants alone, that we don't get lots of modern disease: cancer, arthritis, diabetes, lupus, Alzheimer's and more. Guess as a reward for helping out the world by not adding to the modern destruction, we who are yet few, will out live the others. We also return to our normal weights if we just don't eat the animals. We are far better off with the few fats found in plant foods and don't pack on the weight without all that flesh food. It is no miracle that weight loss occurs without effort. It is the diet we were designed for and when we eat it, there is no temptation to go back to the way I was raised. We spend most of our time living and not eating. And we can make whatever we eat, colorful and tasty, so why do we eat animals? But we think we have the right. We think because we're created in the image of God that we can use that to exploit. Jesus gave the example that He came to serve. He came to end the animal sacrificial system. Now we have ended worshipping Him and continue to eat flesh to our own destruction. Self-control is a benefit for people and it stretches from beyond the food to the rest of life. And we and the planet are better off for it and our soul is nourished as we give thanks for all that God has made and the place of caregiver He has bestowed upon us. Eating animals is not a right and it has become an obsession to the place where the great oceans are being fished out. We grow most crops so we can feed our livestock animals which cause huge amounts of methane, more warming for the planet than all our burning of fossil fuels. Many eat meat not three times a day. It is an obscenity to me now that I think of it. Those crops could be grown for humans and we could feed those people who are starving. But there is no gov't subsidy for that, is there? So we are going broke because of our healthcare system as when we don't take care of what we eat and eat what makes us sick, we are sick and don't have the common sense anymore to correct ourselves, except for the few like me who still hear what God says in my heart and in my mind. So even yet, you and your lovely wife are not alone. But I do find it is a lonely life, even though I would now have no other. We are not sane as humanity any longer, and yet we become more sane when we walk and talk with our Creator. We have to get back to that relationship and stop letting the men in the pulpit limit how much God would have us control. Self-control is the fruit of the Spirit. So is love and charity. How many who say they love God, but actually do. You, sir, are an inspiration. Thank you for your video.

Thank you courag1. Very much enjoyed reading your story and reply but at this time I'm not so sure about the pure vegetarian bit, yet. God made everything our food after the flood (and I don't see where or when He changed that) Jesus cooked fish for the boys after His resurrection, and Peter on top of the roof was shown by God that "all things are clean" (the kill and eat story). And then Paul sort of tells us not to judge on one's chosen diet (Col 2:16 & more so in Rom 14:2) We still live in a sin stained world but it seems we share the longing for the period told to us in Isaiah 11, where beginning in verse 6. the animals are very different (and it seems all vegetarian again?) from what we see today. See you then!

One thing I don't understand is why people think eating plants isn't killing. They're alive, aren't they? They live on a much slower timescale, but they live. They feel, and will move away from too much eat, or toward more light. They have defense systems and lures of their own. Trees (for sure, and probably other plants) communicate with vast chemical networks under the forest floor we're only now discovering, and use that same network to perform actions that look a whole lot like a mother(s) taking care of the young ones, giving them nutrients instead of using them themselves.. Just because we don't understand their language doesn't mean they're not in pain or suffering when we cut into them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are. I AM saying we don't know whether they are or not. You know that smell of freshly-mowed grass everyone loves? That's literally either a scream of pain from all those cut blades of grass, or it's a warning cry to the other grass that danger is afoot... something is eating/cutting them. So.... how is vegetarianism any different than predation? Because the prey doesn't scream out or bleed? Because you don't have to chase it down? Think about it, folks. I promise I'm not trying to start anything other than the wheels of thought in peoples' minds. Vegetarianism just may not be as innocent as one may think.

Well you bring up an interesting point and one I can't answer. I do find it interesting that in the book of Genesis, it seems everything was a "vegetarian" and what was emphasized was the seeds and fruit the trees and plants produced. So? God truly guides us. I too am taken aback by the creatures around us. So many times a hurt, injured, or starving animal of some kind would cross my path or just show up on my doorstep. They know my home will make them whole again. Each and everyone has taught me an appreciation for all life. So much so that I cringe to even kill a bug. We have abilities and resources other creatures don't so we've instinctively become their resource when they need us. It never ceases to amaze me more each time. The funny thing is, in 2005 I began working a job that doesn't allow me the ability to care for many of these animals and so they suddenly stopped showing up. Well, except for a dog or cat now and then. The last few wild ones, like baby opossums, I gave to a wildlife person to care for and that was it. Interesting don't you think?

Dude, it's a "movie" made for kids. The idea to shoot the bird is a joke emphasized by the fact it was making a lot of noise while most people were still trying to sleep. In my area we have as many as 1,000 crows all screaming at first light. I you were woken an hour or two before you'd like to get up almost every day, don't you think you might entertain the same thoughts? The real story of the movie is the fact God shows us He loves us anyway, regardless of our stupid selfish ways.

Awe so sweet. I actually think crows are very smart. I had never been around them until I moved into this house in the city. Right after moving in I saw a crow in the back yard up in a tree and looked up talking to him, figuring he didnt even know I was talking to him. Then one day when I came home a tree outside one of my widows was covered with a flock of crows that were all in sync facing in the direction of the window. As if they were pointing to it like a bird dog. It was the oddest, cutest thing. I felt maybe I should make sure that window was secured. It had some problems so I didnt do a good job. I wish I had called a professional because a week or so later the window was broken into and someone robbed me. Some time later a person I suspected might have been involved came by to do work on my car and when the birds saw him they had a fit, they were screaming and swooping down trying to attack him the whole time he was there trying to work on the car. And I felt like they were angrily trying to scold me for having him there as well. That just felt like a miracle from God they were actually so caring and aware of things like that.
