Thank you DrGrDo for uploading this.. this is just as priceless as having Seiko celebrating her 40th Anniversary 2020-2021. I wished there was the recording is commercially available.

I am happy to hear that you liked this video. I particularly liked the arrangement itself - and the groovy flute-piano phrases played in unison.

@@DrGrDo yes indeed. the talent of Bob James and the musicians.I have been trying to find other clips as Seiko later sang Put Our Hearts Together (written to support the Japanese still recovering from the 2011 Tsunami) with just a piano accompaniment by Bob but was only able to find the audio clips and not the video itself. I am wondering if this concert was shown in one of the Japan broad stations.

This song has been done in every pop form you can think of. Original ballad, mariachi, jazz. It comes off great no matter what. Because it is a great song. NO question.

Two big legends over there: Bob James, Steve Gadd (drums) and a great voice
That the Bob James Quintet is great goes without saying but this melancholy classic doesn't lend itself to being funkified imho. Seiko is tremendous regardless.Thumbs-up for fine performances and the song itself, if with caveat for wayward styling.

I agree, jazzy blues isn't the best fit for "Ue o Muite Arukou", but that said, this collaboration did a great job of it. I hope you haven't missed her cover of this one using an orchestral accompaniment with both English and original Japanese lyrics. The best cover ever made, IMHO. Sorry for the late reply.

@@garyguyton7373 Thanks, Gary. Your remarks caused me to rewatch the video and reappraise the performance. I still question the arrangement some, because for me the overall mood of the song seems best served by a more melancholy, bittersweet mood. Nevertheless, you're right in praising the collaboration, and my admiration for Seiko hasn't diminished. As a matter of fact, and an even bigger thank you for this, but I followed your advice about checking out her orchestrated bilingual version, and I'm going to make a statement I never expected to hear myself make, and that's that I like it as well as Kyu Sakamoto's huge hit version.

@@Galantski That single performance makes her one of the all time greats, IMHO. Maybe it's just me, and now you, but I really find her an incredible artist. Maybe not quite as popular worldwide as Teresa Teng, but she certainly deserves to be on the same stage. I'm glad you found it.

When did she first do this song? I was thinking in the early 1970s, but she looks about 30 years old here.

I love her music but its a bit too spiced up for a sad song. I liked her slower version more.
It is... what it is.. and .... It's BORING !! Dear Seikoi.... Forget these old men and this nonsense sound. Do it again and.... do it RIGHT For a change. How ???? it's easy.... Come to NY and team up with a young musicians and..You will never go back to the "old sound " Swingin' - Rockin"....Big Time...... instead playing a " retiremnet party or funeral music "
