An excellent documentary on the musical Legend - Bob Marley, including never before seen footage and interviews from his long time ex-girlfiend Esther Anderson. The Oscar nominated actress goes into detail about their life together at Hope Road and in London. Freedom Road reveals behind the scenes information that only his closest companions would know. There is also the last UK interview by Bob Marley and live performances including "Lively Up Yourself."
Directed by Sonia Anderson
Produced 2008

Bob marley spoke on real shit . There was only so much he could say because he didn't want to fuck up his fan base as an artist but Bob marley knew alot more than what people think and if he would've said everything that he wanted to say then he would've lost most of his fan base because they would've been offended by the truth that he knew

Bob literally suported thousands of Jamaican famillies. On a regular basis he would give " handouts" enough to start something...People were waiting in long lines to get money NONE of his offspring do anything at all, they just imitate and live off their fathers legacy. , Bob wasnt born with a silver spoon in his mouth and NEVER forgot where he came from. Rest in power lion

This documentary has lot's of inconsistent stories about Bob Marley. Esther Anderson claims she n Bob wrote "get up stand up" after he exiled to London; well, that song was written by Bob Marley n Peter Tosh while they were still the Wailers. Kris Needs claims that Bob went on stage with a gun short wound to join the hands of the two political party leaders; that isn't true either. Yes, Bob made an appearance with a gun short wound shortly after he was short, but the joining of hands came two years later in a "One Love Peace Concert" that bob headlined when he returned to the island. there are many more inconsistencies with times of event and the reasons for the events. This documentary was really made for selfish reasons...

This is a sloppy rendition of Bob's history and Ms. Anderson seems hellbent on making sure that she was a part of that narrative. I don't doubt her presence or influence but I do doubt the integrity of this narrative and how the imagery is incongruent with the history. This documentary comes off more as an attempt to get recognition off of Bob's name as opposed to actually playing an integral part of the movement. "you can fool the people sometime, but you can't fool all the people all the time."

Can't wreck a home without the homeowner's permission. Bob is the one who took those vows to Rita yet his mistresses get all the heat. That needs to stop. I love Bob so much that I enjoyed this, but I think we can see this is kinda slanted and jilted towards a certain point of view aka self promotion by Esther Anderson. It also minimizes Rita and some things about his family. Thats apparent as they are not in the interviews. Who is this about, that woman or Bob? Couldn't really tell.
@msrubie11
@msrubie11 8 жыл бұрын
+Gina Grandi It is so self serving. She act as if she help wrote the songs, taught him everything he knew to promote himself. Bob was who he was, not pretentious. Do we really think this woman had to push Bob Marley to write. He was writing before he ever met her. What a sick woman. The other authors represent her as someone Blackwell sent to document him and she ended up smitten, until he tired of her.

@msrubie11
@msrubie11 8 жыл бұрын
Gina Grandi Am I supposed to care? I don't remember asking you or anyone else for permission to voice my opinions on an open forum. You made a statement that others may not agree with, but that was your right to make it. Ester Anderson has made herself look like the self promoting old side chick who slept openly with a married man, disrespected his wife and kids. Now is left with only memories and films that she is trying to profit from. Who is she to comment on how Rita Marley choose to bury her husband? Look like Ester made herself more important than Bob made her in his life. Bob Marley did not divorce his wife and marry any of those women including her. It seems like most of them have the self respect to let their children have the lime light of their father's legacy. But Esther only has film and pictures, go figure! If she wrote all those songs with him, where is her writing credit? She has none. Even Rita Marley and others are on some of his writing credits, Esther Anderson is on none. So if you think my comments are rude here is some more for you. Esther Anderson was no more than a side Hoe, who did not even get a baby to cash in on the legacy out of her side hoe work. I hear she is damn near broke. She help build Island Records, according to her, but Chris Blackwell owns it and she has nothing. As a Bob Marley's side hoe, she got nothing from that but her fleeting memories. She is old and her looks are gone. She is a dinosaur as far as the entertainment industry is concerned and was never a mega name in the states. She is trying to cash in on what she has left. The memories and films of one of the greatest talents and conscious messengers of the 20th century. She need to take whatever coins she made from her bias film, sat the hell down and shut up! The woman she disrespected, and made to feel less than has now been given her respect and rightful place. The industry respects Bob's wife. She has enjoyed her own career and the career of her children and his children, which she nurtured. Rita has the legacy and is worth about 50 million. Karma is a "Bitch"! Oh, as you have noticed by now. I give less that a damn about what you think!!

Esther Anderson stop blaming others for Bob Marley illness and death for apart from the fact that he inherited the cancer that caused his death from his white/caucasian father, he(Bob) didn't make things better for himself by turning himself into a cocaine addict. From as far back as 1970 Bob was well aware that he had the cancer so this was NOT something that just came upon him suddenly. Collaborating with foreigners to mis-represent the wailers or lying will NOT help you. Provide the proof that you were one of the co-writers of 'Get Up Stand Up' (Time: 26 min) ? Like your con-artist partner Chris Whitewell BOTH of you have been falsely claiming to be the producers of the wailers work. Had it not been for the intervention of Don Taylor(one of Bob's manager) Chris Whitewell would have continued to falsely claim that he was the producer of the wailers songs that was distributed by island record. Also Esther you're disingenuous for saying that white people/caucasians wouldn't listen to Peter Tosh or Bunny Wailer. It was the 'racist mind' of you and Chris Whitewell that was the problem. How come millions of white/caucasian people across the globe was listening to the music of black artists from america, afrika and the caribbean long before the wailers sign up with Island records.

That was not the reason why that mistress of Bob wasn't at his funeral. Funeral was in the future duhhh. I bet she wasn't welcome. Just mistress number how many? Lmao. His kids CELEBRATED their daddy's life. What's wrong with that? NOTHING. Their daddy, HIS funeral. Not of her business how his kids said goodbye that day. Btw, whole Jamaica was dancing, celebrating Bob's life. Not every culture is as stiff as the British at funerals. (And in life) Talking in this vid as if she was his wife, his manager, his everything. Telling him how to do whatever, ttssss. She was definitely not that!!! Just a mistress number ? Lol. Bob loved Rita very much, his mom said so. This mistress was only a mistress, nothing more. Bob never left his Rita, he had kids with multiple women. Why is this woman even talking here? Did she need attention?? Did she 'made' this 'documentary'? I watched some great documentaries and this one, I didn't like it because of her and her talking bs. Incomplete also and all of what we saw here, we already knew/saw that, told/shown in the best documentary of his life and career. Hush woman, you're NOT important at all. We don't care what you said and you did NOT contribute anything to Bob's career at al. Bob did it himself and his fans respected, loved him.

It's a common trait of white people to always steal the cultural product and invention of other people. Esther Anderson claims that she and Bob wrote Get Up Stand Up-so why is Peter Tosh credited as the only other writer of this song with Bob. Another disturbing thing which she Esther Anderson states in the documentary was that Peter and Bunny had to stay in the back for the Wailers to be successful because they were too black-so how is it that black reggae artists before the Wailers had international hits(Desmond Decker and The Aces, Jimmy Cliff, Ken Boothe etc). This position of Chris Blackwell(aka Whitewell)of Island Record for only Bob to do all the lead singing in the group is a reflection of the racist attitude of white people and their light skin counterparts from Jamaica AND it confirms what Peter Tosh spouse(Miss Marlene Brown) stated in an interview with Mutabaruka that Peter Tosh had to fight very hard to get any of his songs on the two albums(burning and catch a fire) before he left the group.

What Esther Anderson said is incorrect. Bible Believers are not supposed to mourn their death, because they are saved. In fact, the Bible says that Believers "sleep;" they do not "die." Unbelievers think that you should mourn at funerals because death is a bad thing to them. In truth, they should mourn when an unbeliever dies because an unbeliever will not enter I AM's kingdom. However, in Bob Marley's case, he is a Believer.

Love this man! LEGEND is what got me through High School in the early eighties and I'll forever be grateful. My shade is on the lighter side of humanity and when he sang "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery for none but Ourselves can Free OUR minds", I heard him singing to ALL people, no matter what you look like. If you are Human and have red blood, then you are my brother or sister in this world. Racism and many other ism's are constructs to segregate human beings and have them fight each other instead of the Evil that is Causing their strife. One Race, One Blood, Human! It's very simple. We are ALL the same color, only different shades and Biologically the same with varied genetic traits. Racism is then, logically, a hatred of the Human Race and would only come from so called "Extraterrestrials" or the Evil one himself. DO NOT let the Evil one convince you that we are not one creation under GOD. We are ALL EQUAL in the eyes of the LORD and ALL his children. It's time we ALL grow up and fight this Evil. Bob Marley grew up and he knew how to win this fight. He sang it to all of us.....ONE LOVE! Love and Peace to ALL.

I think what Miss Esther Anderson says in this video must be right, and that all the anecdotes she mention about writing are true because these stories happend when the wailers first came to London, way before the I threes covered for Peter who left the groupe and Bunny who did not like being on the road returned to Jamaïca. She 's not trying to get any kind of recognition, she simply tells her story with that Guy Nobody New at the time (in London ). The public still wants to hang to that image of prophete etc...but she had a different experience with a normal man full of talent, this is as simple as that.

...weep when one is born, rejoice when one's life is taken from the earth...figure out the parable for yourself...but "Bob's " legacy speaks as to whether he's a prophet or not...as for I, RASTA prophet that ...Amos 2v11...and yes he was especially chosen because of his complexion and or race, just as George William Gordon, for example, in his day and time, to bring the message of the King Ras Tafari to the world. Why? Because the powers that be couldn't claim that he was just another "black fanatic"...his material success was inevitable and a reward for his divine commitment to the liberation of not only the black race but the human race...and his offsprings ...

Why the need to have to be told/shown what you already have by others first but not your own? Who with their right faculties about them would not see that Bob was a gem in the rough; Bob and The Wailers? All of the band members were exceedingly talented in their own right?
