Incredible music and great political message. He really understood change comes from peoples' movements, from below. Racial and economic justice messages are throughout his songs. For a musician he really was a radical. "All that glitters is gold, half that story never been told" I always read that as people who treasure gold and its "beauty" they don't hear about the horrible conditions of workers who mine it and the poverty in which they live, or that simply these great riches also mean incredible poverty which people in power would have us overlook. And to forget the religious idea of paradise in the afterlife, organize here and now, don't let politicians and religious figures divide you.

I was blessed to see them at UCLA in November of 1979. This Roxy show from 1976 captures his essence: Stand Up for your rights, we don't need no more trouble and War. Tremendous spiritual power in the lyrics, the music and the man. Great band too. I heard Bob Dylan was at this show. Maybe that's why Slow Train Coming has a reggae beat and a trio of girls on stage singing back up.

I think this is the best version ever recorded of No More Trouble / War medley. The bass is just off the charts and when the organ comes front 7:06 to the beginning of War ... just too funky for words.

Marley’s message continues to reverberate internationally among various indigenous communities. For instance, the Aboriginal people of Australia burn a sacred flame to honour his memory in Sydney’s Victoria Park, while some members of the Native American Hopi and Havasupai tribe consider Marley to be the fulfilment of an ancient prophecy. Such is his legacy that in 2008 a statue of Bob Marley was unveiled in a small Serbian village during a rock festival as a token of peace in the Balkans. As the man himself said, “We should really love each other in peace and harmony, instead we’re fussin’ n fighting like we ain’t supposed to be.”

I've played large festivals and small shows with 300 people. I love the smaller venues because of the intimacy. You can literally feel the Wailers feeding off of that smaller crowd. If you ever get the chance to see your favorite in a small venue please don't miss the opportunity.

And then there was those that said no more oppression.... All that glitters is gold is the love manifested within the soul. Because in the end god asks " so what did you fight for ? " truth? Yes? Justice? Yes? Did you stand up for me or lay down for the devil? If you cant stand sit and pray. Humility is this " give it all to the lord because without love life is worthless" god is life - life defends a fight a battle and a time choose with all your heart mind and soul for we are one! Ekam sat the race is on.
