Early 1983 at the Summit in Houston. Presumably, Paul Boesch was the promoter, but it was booked by Southwest Championship Wrestling.

I believed they invited Flair, Backlund, and Bockwinkel to compete in this tournament as well. I believed neither one of the 3 world champions showed up.

@@danawhite535 On the Wrestling Gold Vol 1 DVD, there is an alternate commentary track with Cornette and Meltzer. They talked about the background of this match and show. Flair, Bockwinkel and Backlund were not booked on this tournament. They appeared on an opposition show booked by Houston promoter Paul Boesch. This show was a Southwest Championship Wrestling show in which they trying to build themselves back up after losing their TV over delinquent bill payments and a tasteless angle involving pig manure that pissed off the USA Network executives. The tournament was intended to crown their version of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship since the main NWA World title was off limits.
