what I remember about Paul Silas was he seemed to come up with EVERY loose ball I got kinda fascinated about this for a while & after a while finally realized why Silas didn't go directly at the loose ball. He took the surest route to put himself between the ball & the nearest opponent. Which is why he frequently got the ball AND a loose ball foul called on the other guy

There have been so many books written about past NBA players, and even one about John Havlicek. Only one? Why only one? It was written by Bob Ryan. John Havlicek was one of the greatest NBA players of all time. There should be more books written about him. Please!!!!

Love the '70s Celtics. Fun fact: Silas, Havlicek and Cowens are the only front line to be named intact as First Team All-Defense (1976).

Offensive rebounds are the winning edge. More coaches need to focus on this along with defensive fundamentals. Too much emphasis on shooting.

Especially encouraging players who have difficulty shooting an uncontested 15 footer (a free throw) to shoot 25 footers (3’s). Totally illogical.

Bob, mention some of McHale's specific metaphors and similes as well as some of Silas' brilliant insights, instead of simply saying they had them. As a writer, you should know better.

I use to copy Paul Silas's offensive rebounding technique. Use to infuriate players because if you have technique, you don't have to be that tall to get em.
