"Comically mean" exactly, it's a joke. He's joking. I'm so confused and surprised this has so many upvotes, I wouldn't have thought it go over so many peoples heads that he has an extremely dry sense of humor and he's not being serious. I think it works really well because they're mostly a really goofy over the top cast, so he makes a great foil/"straight man" (no pun intended lol). They clearly like him and have done multiple interviews with him so obviously they're not taking his sarcasm seriously or thinking he's being mean.

Dude. What is going on with this interviewer? I don't even know what to say, other than that he is definitely not playing the straight man or trying to be funny. His ego is just brutal. I've literally never met in person someone with an ego that insane. Then when he's at an all time douche-high he says to Kristen "Not to put you on the spot" and then does exactly that. I've heard of people playfully asking their guests "Why don't you follow me on Twitter?" but when this guy said it he really meant it. Favorite interviewer quote: "There's abs under there." So brutal.
