The energy and quick wit of Bob Monkhouse were the recipes for success for any show he hosted. Remarkable man.

Dear Bob Monkhouse :) A Master of comedy, and also blessed with genuine kindness :)

I found Bob's fascination in his latter years, with the mighty Bob Hope a bit strange, then I discovered that Bob Monkhouse and his partner wrote for Bob Hope. Boy was I gobsmacked. Much, much Missed, a truly true, legend.

Ian Messiter was one of the question setters - he also did this for two of Bob Monkhouse's other game shows - Celebrity Squares and Family Fortunes. He also created the Radio 4 panel show Just a Minute (derived from his earlier creation One Minute Please), which is still running over 50 years later.

The late great Bob Monkhouse on top form as always. He always had a joke for any situation. Even back then, the broadcasters had a cap on the value of the prizes they could offer.

Loved this show back in the day!

They need to put this back on Challenge and show a lot more series. It's shocking that Challenge saw fit to only show one series of this then ditched it.

2:04 Monkhouse mentions Max Bygraves and Family Fortunes, the show Monkhouse presented before Bygraves took over. Oddly enough, Bygraves got mentioned in the very first edition of FF as well as this programme.
@rajnirvan33362 жыл бұрын
I remember seeing that. Family Family was the 1st time I ever watched Bob when I was a child. Max did in return mention Bob in his very 1st episode too when took the reins on Family Fortunes

Anyone else spot a flash of "Computer System - English Electric Valve Company" in the credits sequence at 29:31? Was it an unintentional double-change on the credits sequence or the fallback output of the display system?!

Great show but shows you how the world has moved on from those prizes that were offered at the time.

It had a few similarities to Family Fortunes eg the board and end credits. I remember when Bob quit Family Fortunes my nan and I started watching this instead coz my nan always said she enjoyed watching anything with Bob as he was the man
@dvidclapperton2 жыл бұрын
What was she watching on a Friday night instead of Famlly Fortunes? Because Bob's Full House was never on on a Friday night and Family Fortunes was never on on a Saturday night. Wogan? That was just another boring chat show.
@rajnirvan33362 жыл бұрын
@@dvidclapperton I know Bob's Full House was on Saturday. What I meant to say was starting to watch this after he stopped hosting FF after Max Bygraves took over.

Bob Monkhouse is the only presenter that was voted the 50 best liked presenter and the 50 least liked presenter at the same time and was one of the nicest guys. If you can find it online id recommend watching a documentary about his life, showing how hard he worked.

A show like this was attempted in America once in 1990 under the name "Trump Card", named so because it was taped in Atlantic City at a property that was owned by Donald Trump at the time. It was hosted by former American football player and sports commentator Jimmy Cefalo. It only lasted one season.

It would be nice if trump card or this show can happen in Canada.

It is said that Bob Monkhouse always kept a book of jokes with him so if it sounds spotaneous, it was actually reasonably rehearsed.
@antster19838 жыл бұрын
He had several ring binders full of jokes that he collected or wrote for use on his programmes. Two of them were stolen in 1995 and Bob offered a £15,000 reward for their return. They were returned after 18 months, but the culprit was never found. Probably didn't want to be done for receiving stolen goods.
@DavidPaulMorgan7 жыл бұрын
it was rehearsed, based on the anecdotes from the contestants. he could have been spontaneous, but there was a risk of repetition, hence the outline. I was on the last but one episode recorded - the same last pair recorded for the Ken Bruce et.al. episode broadcast Dec 1989. Don't know if anyone has a copy? I won the "2 weeks for 2 people" to mykonos prize. It was actually 1 £1000 Lunn Poly Voucher, which I spent on myself and went to California! I was in a photo with Bob, in the Radio times obituary article for him!

The BBC had quiz game based on bingo in 1969 called Quiz Bingo hosted by Jimmy Savile. It was dropped after one series as BBC bigwigs considered a game show based on bingo too vulgar. Unfortunately no recordings of the show survive.

Or fortunately, as the case may be.

This could be revived now in 2020 and used by either the BBC or ITV as a replacement for the never ending and now boring blandness of Pointless and The Chase. Anyone else agree?

I'd love to see ITV revive the show as an hour-long show with someone maybe like Ant & Dec as hosts and a top prize of £50,000 plus any extra money won in the bonus round. In the bonus round, it would be most likely that all the extra money would be the numbers multiplied by ten.
@garyhunt7646 жыл бұрын
Andrew Hain I agree with that what about Paul O Grady or Steven Mulhern hosting . Do remember Shane Richie he did a show called Lucky Numbers which was similar that came out 1995. I remember watching this great show on Saturdays it came on either before or after Doctor Who great days Dear Bob was a great host RIP Bob and thank so much for all your work.

In the first round, the contestants are trying to mark the four corners of their customized bingo card (British bingo, not American bingo). In the second round, contestants are trying to mark their middle line, and in the third round, they're trying for a full house (filling up their entire board). The winner plays for a holiday where they try to reveal the letters of that holiday on their bingo board by answering questions.
