I got to meet Bob Sapp many years ago at a Navy base in Washington State. He was doing an autograph signing with Chuck Liddell back when Chuck was champ. I remember Bob being an incredibly warm, friendly dude that was spending so much time talking to fans. You could tell the he really appreciated his fans, it was just so cool to see such a huge monster be so humble and down to earth with everybody. He had no ego and was super nice talking with people I remember he would ask his fans questions about themselves like he seemed very interested in them.

If Sapp fought with this much passion and determination his whole career, he would've been one of the all-time greats.

he would have retired early or died due to injuries. in this hoost fight he won but broken many ribs. after he faced crocop he broken his skull orb and after that he realised it wasnt worth fighting like that cause all money earned going to be spend in doctors and stuff so he just lay down when he see he cant win..he said it him self

Lmfaoooooo no. Just no. Bob was a walking steroid who should have had his own weight class. This is a 60 pound difference at least. Sapp was pure ass. He was just absolutely huge. He was real tough tho ill give him that. If hoost didn't put himself in the corner again and again he would have been fine. These 2 losses to Sapp are absolutely baffling. The way Ernesto chose to fight was insane.
@danyoutube7491 Жыл бұрын
@@williams268 I agree, though I was impressed with Sapp's toughness as well. Knowing Sapp better from his later notable defeats in Pride I was surprised to see him prevailing after a lot of early leg kicks clearly hurt him. I used to feel sorry for him, but seeing here how he enjoyed rubbing in his dominant position near the end of the fight against Hoost, and being the obscenely large steroid monster he'd turned himself into, it makes his later knockout defeats all the more satisfying to watch!

Comical that some people claim these wins prove Sapp was a great kickboxer. He deserves credit for realizing he outweighed Hoost by 100+ pounds and fully using that to his advantage. His technique is nonexistent. He just pinned Hoost in the corner, held him there with one arm as he threw gorilla punches with the other arm. No defense or actual combinations.

I always wondered why Hoost didn't use his mobility better to take Sapp into later rounds. Still, he's pushing middle age, and Sapp is maybe still in his late 20's? Hoost is fighting at a weight difference of at least a full grown adult, and he was used to being big for his class. Still, it's wild how easily he got cornered. Pride was known for shenanigans. This fight basically put Sapp on the map, and he became and incredible cash cow for a lot of people in Japan. Does anyone know if that cut was scar tissue from a previous fight?

Perfect example of size matters regardless of how trained you are. This is exactly what a fight between Bradley Martyn and Devon Haney would look like.

I agree! People underestimate bodybuilders and people with a bodybuilder physique. A bodybuilder has developed pretty much every muscle in their body more than the average human and they can unleash an insane amount of power in a short amount of time. If all your muscles are developed you will be able to of course generate more power but also move much faster and in ways that many people can't move. Endurance is the biggest issue with a bunch of muscle, but for the first 60 seconds a pro bodybuilder could potentially run over a pro fighter.
@TreyYork16 ай бұрын
I disagree strongly! Unless a Body builder develops the kinetic chains used in striking for *power*, and an understanding of the mechanics of striking-- I believe you'll see them doing poorer than you think. However, their mass is valuable for taking shots, and their strength is absolutely *not useless*, if not ideal. I believe that's why the concept of "farmer strength" exists. Farm work requires more power and muscle endurance, which translate better to fighting. Sapp was an NFL player, and much more of a power focused athlete than a bodybuilder! Not that he didn't train and eat for size, too, plus all the 'roids. Anecdotally, I can say that I tested lbs psi for a right hand with a buddy who was a bodybuilder, probably 80lbs heavier than I was. It wasn't even *close*, and I'm no world champion! He absolutely embarrassed me at pull ups later though-- again he had the technique and trained systems. Don't believe my anecdote though, even if it's true. There's video out there of lightweight fighters throwing harder than NFL lineman and bodybuilders all over the internet

Hoost went out there untrained. A clear sign of a bloated ego or overlooking someone. Once Hoost saw that his upper body strking wasn't really gaining a lot of ground, he should have kept his distance and kept doing those lower leg kicks on Sapp knee and lower leg. Eventually Sapp would not move well and be a sitting duck. But he went out there untrained, so he was not sharp and his endurance was down.
