Cold weather steelhead fishing in west Michigan. We ran jigs under floats through deep pools where wintering fish can usually be found. This was filmed on the same river where the former IGFA world record brown trout was caught in 2009 that weighed 41 lbs!
The equipment we used on this trip was centerpin reels on 13' float rods, coupled with jigs. For bait we ran jigs & wax worms, or spawn.

The float rods we use are actually longer than they look- 13 footers! The longer rod helps to mend the line, and keep a clean drift. Glad you liked the vid. Feel free to use that fish pose. I didn't trademark it... yet. LOL!

Im still a beginner compared to you two but i noticed that you set the rig in a drift a let it go. do you think this could work from shore. That is if you find the right place to waiter fish.

@ConsummateSportsman 11 жыл бұрын
Summer? Yes. Still water? No need. The advantage of a CP rig is using current to pull your line off the reel, presenting a drag free drift. Without current, your centerpin is useless. Just use a spinning, or baitcasting reel.

With as many fish as you guys release you should really consider investing in a knotless, rubberized net. Knotted nets can cause fish to go blind, reducing their likelihood of successfully spawning.
