I live 6-8 miles from this house, one day I'll be brave and drive past it - I'd love to see it in person. I did that with the Brady house a few years back - very early on a Sunday morning! It's very cool seeing these homes in person - especially this one because Knots Landing was one of my favorite shows.

I met the owners of the Ewings house on the Cul De Sac who lived there during the series production. They were compensated more than others on the street. Their house was open for cast and crew to use the bathrooms, telephone, etc... I was there during the production and had the opportunity to visit and be inside the house. The garage was also used by the Knots production to store items that were routinely used. Every homeowner on the Cul de sac and the street were compensated something, although different and less amounts. Some were compensated $500 per day while the Owners of Valene Ewing's house were compensated well over $2000 a day during production on the Cul de Sac.

Technically it didn’t last longer than Dallas. Dallas aired during 14 seasons, 357 episodes. They both ran during 14 TV seasons. Knots Landing had 344 episodes. Dallas also had 3 movies with a Reunion as well. Dallas had a reboot in 2012 which had 3 more seasons with 40 episodes. So it ran a total of 17 TV season. That being said I love both Dallas and Knots.

Jason Gibson I agree, I only wished that the show kept Kenny longer on the show, maybe paired with Paige. Also, Ben should have returned because it's not certain he actually died. So it was a opportune time to have brought him back in later season.

The inside entry of the Val's real house is very similar to the set, so when the front door is open on the real house, it looks like the set does. The set also included a replica of the exterior front porch seen on the real house. In the reunion, once the cast is inside, they're on a set in a soundstage. Sets don't have second floors in most cases, Knots included. The actor walks up stairs, then they cut to the actor walking onto a different set that represents the upstairs. I shot in June.

I'd love to have seen the sets for Knots. So many of them! 5 houses, the ranch, offices, Lotus Point, etc. They filmed at Lorimar (AKA MGM) now Sony. Val and Gary were not kicked off of Dallas.(They had to cameo Gary and Val's rolls for the Knots Landing Series) Knots Landing was written first but David Jacobs developed Dallas afterward and decided to shoot that series first, The original Knots landing series used 5 houses, The Ewing House, The Fairgate/McKensie house, The Avery house, and the Wards. And later on the Abby Cunningham house that was used by Claudia Sumner later in the seasons.
@johnzenone69407 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob - great job!!! Loved KL growing up and still watch my DVD's and some of the episode's on YT. Did you know that I was told by the prior Val home owners in '96 or '97 that the production manager for KL owned Val's house? I think they were playing cards and one of the producers mentioned they needed a location and he volunteered his home! That's why they chose THAT cul-de-sac! SMART production manager - had his mortgage paid off for 14 years (as you stated), as did the other home owners that were featured in the series.

Great site Bob! Do you happen to know where Abby and Gary's Malibu beach house was located during the CiJi episodes.
@rjcelli12 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Just the other day I thought, "Why didn't I ask to go out back????" They rarely filmed in the actual backyards of the homes, and much has changed since the show went off the air. As for Hollywood Magic, it depends. If you see them outside of the house, say in the driveway, and they walk all of the way to the front door and go inside, they walked into the real house. But in all cases, the interior was a set. They'd cut to the studio shot. Often, the real owners were put in hotels.
@lecuyerdooley1084 Жыл бұрын
They filmed one episode from the back of the Avery house in season 5, when Jason is out at the pool trying to unload things his now-runaway dad gave to him. You can see Laura exiting the home down some stairs to the pool, and this exterior looks nothing like the soundstage backyard of the Averys seen in earlier seasons.

Thank you beyond words. This is probably my favorite show of all time - except for the last 3 seasons that were just horrible to me. I can't believe that 20 years after the show ended how extremely little the houses and landscapes have changed. Since the front door was wide open, I was so hoping you would quickly show a camera shot just inside "Val's" house from the front door just to see how different it was from the set. The thing I noticed most on the inside of the MacKenzie house was that instead of the fireplace being on the back wall, wasn't that their formal dining area just off the kitchen? I remember them sitting around a table back there in many episodes. I think the MacKenzie set actually had the fireplace on the side wall of the living room area that would but up against the side of Val's house. On another note, what was that purple blooming tree in front of Abby's house? Gorgeous! Must be native to California. Where were the exteriors of Gary's ranch shot? Thanks again. I must visit there one day!
@rjcelli8 жыл бұрын
+TimsDale4ever You're so welcome. I had the opportunity to shoot inside the Ewing house but blew it. My apologies. It's actually pretty similar, just smaller. Gary's ranch is currently for sale and is still used frequently as a filming location. It's in the community of Hidden Valley. I've been watching knots for the past two weeks. There are many shots from the street of Valene walking out of the house you can see she must've been inside the real home. In the reunion the cast walks into the McKenzie home. Those homeowners must've spent lots of time in hotels...lol! Visiting the cul-de-sac is on my bucket list...how can I find it and also, when did you shoot your video? I would love to see pic of the actual set especially when an actor walks upstairs, what's up there!!!

That culdesac is in Granada Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles. The actual street name is Crystalaire Place, not Seaview Circle which was the street name on the show. I think you can drive by at anytime. I guess I am dating myself but I would love to buy one of the houses on the Knots Landing culdesac if I lived in Los Angeles anyway. A friend of mine that was visiting LA anyway, drove by there, took pics. I guess that show has been off the air for 25 years, so it's not that well known anymore. My friend said that the neighborhood around it, is nice, but slightly rundown.
