I watched your post on meniscus tear without surgery.. you said "rest it or it will become chronic" ...I did weights for 3 months and rested the knee, I now walk a little more than a mile a day, completely pain free. I know what I should/shouldn't do with the knee. Bless you both. You saved me and my knee.

Weights for 3 months does not sound like resting the knee. Can you explain what you did to fix it?
@missymuss349
@missymuss349 8 ай бұрын
@@CynthiaAvaso sorry I wasn't specific. About 10 years ago had meniscus tear, painful, could hardly walk, got two corticosteroid shots at the same time in each side of the knee.. healed over two months was able to walk perfectly. Then a couple of years ago did a deep squat exercise reinjured the knee and limped, but continued to attempt power walking... After Bob and Brad mentioned complete rest I stopped any attempt at power walking, walked slowly with knee brace if I had to move at all and did weights for the upper body, crunches, slow stationary bike. Did this for three months. Then started back with slow, very short walks, progressing based on knee toleration. Now back to my normal, no pain, no brace. To maintain I now do treadmill with incline or 2 mile walk in park or some lower body machines at the gym.

I had a cortisone injections every 9 months in my knee for 8 years and they were brilliant, which is why I needed them so rarely. Then one day they just stopped making a difference and I am scheduled for a knee replacement in a few months. I can’t recommend them highly enough, they enable me to walk without pain and bought me 8 more years before surgery.

I just had the new “super PRP” injection this last Tuesday. I have to see how it works out. It seems to be working better than the regular 3 shots I had before of regular PRP. The super PRP is one injection as opposed to the three regular PRP. My knee feels so much better. Worth the $2,000

@@BobandBrad I have end stage arthritis but I am not a candidate for knee replacement at this time. The first time I got PRP I didn't notice that much difference. Three shots one week a part. However, this time with the super shot my knee is loving it and I am walking so much better. It's only been one week but I am now able to do my knee rehab. May not be for everyone but I had been thinking of getting an electric wheelchair before I got the shot.

I had a friend here in her 80s that just had a shoulder replacement and is doing great. 6 weeks recovery and now she has so mcuh movement and is very happy about it. Super PRP is I believe double or triple the same medication in one shot. Regulare PRP given one shot per week for three weeks did not do very much for me however the super shot did. However, my bad knee that Kaiser refuses to replace has gotten worse. My other knee with arthrisis is doing great. Not sure that they do super shots on shoulders.@@marizalk

VERY CLEAR!! Thank you B&B!!! Exactly what I needed to know. I was at my rheumatologists office, asking is there anything to help regrow cartilage, he quickly said NO, before I could get my question out. Then I suggested why isn't there some type of GEL to shoot into the joints where cartilage is disappearing. If I remember correctly, I was told we're not there yet. Instead, finally gave me referrals for PT and an Ortho to pursue. I went one time to the PT, she was WONDERFUL, but too expensive, because she's not in "network". But gave me some exercises to do, which are identical to your videos. I have great days able to move with less pain, and I can actually bring my knee to my chest now with much less pain. I asked for shots in the knee, but was recommended to try PT first. GOD BLESS YOU BOYS - YOU'RE BOTH GREAT!

I Tried stem cell transfer from my own body. Had plenty of cells, millions & millions, close to 100mil with no success. Tried 4 PRPs over a year with little help. Tried A2M (Alpha 2 Macrogloblin)centerfuse system with great results; 2 years pain free and 2 more years of slight pain. If I had paid for the 2md one I would have continued doing better. But opt out of thousands $$. Insurance and Medicare should be paying for most of A2M injections as it is way more affective than PRPs. It is said to heal arthritis therefore relieving pain! I don’t know of negative effects. It is a cheaper wsy to go for insurance companies but might put surgeons out of all the business!! And they don’t want to do that! Medicine, sadly, is about money. It’s sad we don’t hear about the A2M option, isn’t it?

One thing worth mentioning for the steroid injections, anyone with diabetes may be an increased risk for extremely high readings several days to weeks afterwards. This is something that varies between people, but can definitely be dangerous and land you in the hospital if you are not fully aware of that side effect or it has been minimized to you by your Dr. Other than that, always enjoy Bob & Brad's videos! In 2015, I went to a rheumatologist after debilitating knee pain in left knee. I had my knee drained of fluid (about 1/2 gal!). 1 week later, 2 separate injections 1 week apart. She said they were bio-identical synovial fluid, or Hyaluronic acid. Is that your #3 injection? Supposed to last 6 months, but in 3 months I had knee pain and popping again. Not debilitating but sometimes painful. I didn't go back, but started Chondroitin/Glucosamine pills and THAT worked. Then tried keto then very low carb and THAT is what I'm doing to this day. Knee pain stays away. It's a lifestyle change and works for me.

BUT, when I started eating very low carb and sometimes almost Keto in 2017 is when I stopped the Osteo bf and have managed my knee with that .. and exercises to strengthen all surrounding leg muscles. It hurts from time to time if not in a good sleeping position. Only my left knee, not the right one. My 80 year old mother-in-law saw an orthopedic surgeon a few weeks ago. She is not a heavy woman, and she has only one knee causing her problems. She feels she is ready for a knee replacement. The surgeon told her she isn't even close to surgery until she tries some other avenues. He offered her physical therapy, medication, and injections (didn't explain injections because she immediately refused all talk of them). She wants to go straight from physical therapy and medication to a replacement because she is afraid of needles. 🤦‍♀ She says the medication is helping so she may just stick with that....but we were told what he put her on is temporary and she can't take it long term. We go back on February 10th. I hope at that time she is accepting of having injections or at least discussing it before she gets to the point that she can't push through the pain.

Great overview, gents. Thank you! By the way, I have been receiving gel injections (Supartz Fx - Hyaluronic Acid) in both knees twice a year for 11 years, i.e., 110 injections in each knee, and they are still very effective. My recommendation to anyone considering these injections is that they have them administered by an M.D. orthopedist at a leading hospital, preferably one near their home, and that the doctor uses ultrasound to expertly guide the shots. Having researched this type of gel treatment for many years, I can highly recommend Supartz Fx, which is made by Bioventus. These injections are most effective when received over a period of five consecutive weeks, thus the recommendation for a hospital near your home. Do Not opt for other gels which, in order to attract those unwilling or unable to make 5 trips to the hospital, advertise three or even one injection, but include a much smaller amount of the gel and as a result are not nearly as effective. If your orthopod uses another gel and for some reason won’t order Supartz Fx for you, find a doctor who will! Find a Physician here: www.oakneepainrelief.com/supartz_fx/physician-locator/ Good luck!

I had RTKR May 2022 from osteoarthritis and meniscus tear. I have two meniscus tears in L knee and don’t want another TKR. Set me on fire before I go through that again! I have had the cortisone shots, never again. I want to do everything I can not to have knee surgery. My OS put me in a support brace and that has really helped plus doing exercises. When I golf ⛳️ I wear the brace and when I walk my mile every day I wear it. Typically around the house I don’t need it. Do you recommend putting weights on the ankle to strengthen the L knee or will that make the meniscus hurt more? Love you guys!
@BobandBrad
@BobandBrad Жыл бұрын
It could go either way, honestly. It's great to strengthen, however if it starts to feel like it's causing knee or leg pain that is worse or new, we wouldn't recommend continuing those.

In my 30s, had arthroscopic surgery on rt knee. The OA shredded the meniscus and cartilage. They removed both & shaved the bone. Had the lubricant injection about every 6 mths, was great. After while only required once a year. Then the pandemic and the office wasn't taking appointments, then i got busy with care giving to parents. Well fast forward to current, and am told my insurance stopped paying for this treatment. They gave me a steroid injection. A weak later knee swelled 3xs its size. This may sound odd, but the knee would get painful, seldom swell. I thoght steroid was suppose to reduce swelling. Called the dr office, they said its natural progression of the bone on bone OA condition and told me the only next option is replacement. I avoided that for 30 years with the lubricant shot. Insurance will cover replacement but not the lubricant injection. Boggles the mind. Not sure what to do. As have been told for 30 years, you're an excellent candidate for replacement but too young. I've stayed active with non weight bearing exercises, swimming, cycling and yoga. Have high energy and still work a full time job. I hope to work at least anther 10 yrs. My only concern, i have a lot of allergies, am concerned about the product material content. Have heard a small % actually have allergic reacton. Causing chronic inflammation, stiffness &/or pain. CHRONIC. Well now it feels like being between a rock and a hard spot. Its a serious consideration. Thank you for all your informative videos

I've had the corticosteroid injections in both knees and it lasted about a year the first time. 2nd set of injections that I got in August is wearing off already. Just had a corticosteroid injection in right hip 2 weeks ago and already in pain again when walking. Not looking forward to the next hip injection as it really hurt to me. I am starting your hip and knee exercises and trying to lose weight to see if it helps!!!

Sometimes, the cortisone injections cause more issues in the body as a whole. It sucks that insurance pays for that no questions asked and ironically, it keeps people coming back! $$$

Injection pain depends on the skill of the person doing it, and where in the knee it has to go. If they have to move the needle around it will hurt more.

Because of my health, ( not being able to have surgery on my knees,) I have been been getting synvis shots over 15 years and they only last about 6 months!!! I have seen so many different doctors hoping to find something else and they all give me the same shots! I still have lots of pain with the shots, but I heard about a treatment ( from my pain doctor) that they go into the knees and do a bunch of needles to deaden the nerves, with some kind of electros !!! I am a little bit scared of this procedure but I don't know what to do, please help me!!!

That is good news to hear that Viscosupplementation injections have worked wonders for you. I completed my 3 injections got the last one Dec 11, 2023. No major knee pain before injection just noticed my knee would buckle occasionally when walking which scared me so bad. I have been doing PT working to strengthen muscles and regain mobility. So far no buckling but really scared as my knee feels weird sometimes. I’m 61 and was told I have OA in both knees but nothing to worry about regarding knee replacement. I would appreciate any advice you can give to encourage me. I’m trying to get back to walking and lose weight. I’m not obese but l can stand to lose about 20 pounds. Thank you in advance.
