Thoroughly amused at the “go to urgent care” comment. I have numbness in my groin, down my leg/shin. Went to the ER and was sent packing after a shot of muscle relaxer. It has been 3 weeks now and i’m still about 2 weeks out from getting my MR scans done. Add another few days to a week to get back into the doctor after that. You get the picture. Meanwhile, walking is becoming harder and harder. Sleep is near impossible, dorsiflexion is paralyzed and life sucks. Here’s hoping I don’t have permanent nerve damage by the time somebody actually helps me instead of peddling referrals and prescriptions.

Hi Bob and Brad I'm a 50 year old male who since 2014 has had a problem and lower back pain. I work Polishing marble floors that include a twisting motion since 2007 and for 5 year before this I worked in a factory lifting marble and granite 8 hours a day. 4 days ago I was in my kitchen on my knees sorting my tool box out for tools I needed to do a job and I simply bent forward and my left side of my lower back went into spasm and for a couple of days I was in extreme pain and now as I write this I am better but my back went out so easily. Should I see a back specialist to check me out? I did go to the ER room and the doctor said that I should give up my job. He prescribed pain and anti inflammation medication but this has happened a few times since 2014. I take extreme caution when I'm working Polishing floors but when I'm working I'm constantly twisting my back from left to right.. What should I do? I can't quit my job but I'm not getting any younger and when I'm in bed and if I move a certain way my back goes into spasm. Any advice would be most welcome and appreciated

Following morning went to the hospital as saddle region was also numb. Everthing was so numb I was no longer in pain so that was a bonus. I was using a zimmer frame to walk by end of the day. Three days later I was operated on (would have been that day but hospital looked at old mri). Luckily for me and the hospital given the mistake over 6 months I regained full usage of everthing but took lots of physio. Only slight different is a spot of numbness on one leg. So glad I recognised the symptoms and went straight to the hospital even if thier mistake did not help. The scary bit was when I eventual got surgery and he read the detail for consent he said you probably won't regain function you have currently lost, glad he was wrong.

I had cauda equina and the symptoms I had were slightly different I stopped passing urine and had pain coming round into my pelvis, groin and down the front of my thigh. My Dr told me I had a urine infection! Went on holiday, came back early, saw a different Dr and was rushed to the SGH in Glasgow for emergency surgery. I was 27 and I've been left with permanent nerve damage on my right side. If I hadn't been so ill, I would have taken her to court for negligence. Same with disability, I was refused it because according to someone who worked in an office my condition would get better. By the time I was 38 I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and have used a cane since. I recently found out that I have in my cervical spine, reduced lordosis, c5/6 and c6/7 have degenerative changes. Retrolosthesis at l5/s1. L3/l4, l4/l5 and l5/s1 bulging discs, severe spinal stenosis at l5/s1 and bulging discs in my thoracic spine. That was all there in my scan from 5 years ago when they diagnosed the stenosis but never told me about the other signs of degeneration. I have very little faith in the medical profession here in the Scotland. I found these things out from a trauma specialist! I'm so thankful for the exercises that you put up, between them, my yoga and my massages I just manage to get out a couple of days a week for a wee while!

@@jackiewilliams5860 I've come to the conclussion that meds do not help at all for Sciatica. Physical Theraphy helped me some what. I had it for 2 months now and its just naturally going away. Mckenzie method helped alot more with the pain than all the meds I was given. I stopped Gabapentin bc it gave me vertigo, which made everything worst. Plus it didn't help one bit. Every other med prescribed did nothing (except the opium) helped with pain. I also tried cupping, because my legs were feeling hard and stiff, it helped with the hardness. Probably because it allowed more blood circulation. But cupping hurted like a mofo. One person told me acupuncture helped them alot, but I have not tried it.

Mine is running down my left leg, I have an appointment with pain management on the 14th. Pain got so bad I called 911, they were honest with me, they said because my vitals were so good the ER would sit me in waiting area, (sitting is worse), so then we did a tele health and we spoke with a nurse and doctor, from the questions they asked me, they advised I try and make it to my pain management appt because they're the only ones that will provide pain meds that's going to be strong enough to help me. If it gets worse to call them back. Opioid pandemic casual users have really put real pain patients through hell, my thing is if the doctors are being so controlled with denying pain meds, where the heck are the street users getting it from 🤔. I just want to be healed and not jump on the opioid addict train while in treatment. Thank you two, I've enjoyed your channel for years. 😊

How are you now?? Did you had surgery ??
@YOUNGNGRATEFUL Жыл бұрын
@@Preeti-lw9jcyes. Come to find out I had multiple levels of fractures of my spine. Apparently if you have the symptoms I identified above - 4 months of having those symptoms is the MAX you can have before becoming paralyzed and/or having permanent nerve damage. In case, I got very scared so I had to contact local surgeons and they directed me to the Emergency Room. They believed it was as serious as I described it. After some scans, I was scheduled for surgery the next morning - which turned out to be around 12 hours. I required a 6 level fusion of my T6-T12. I also have a disease where the bone grows into the spinal cord. The surgeon removed enough bone so that it buys me more time before there is an issue of compression from new bone growth. So, it may grow or may not. But he did remove some extra bone from the inner vertebrae to be safe. It’s now month 5 and I’m just starting to become able to use JUST a walker, whereas I needed a wheelchair solely this entire time - you lose stability and muscle strength during recovery. The recover is tedious and not one you can do alone. My wife had to wipe my butt and still does sometimes because twisting causes really painful cramps of my ribs and upper body. I use a shower chair because of the numbness in my feet that hasn’t 100% gone away, etc. I also broke my leg previous to the spine surgery, which complicates my balance and my pain levels/discomfort levels are different. What I can say for sure is, numbness in any form, the urge you can’t hold pee or poop, and your body releases….followed by weakness in the legs… you will likely 100% need surgery. It’s an emergency. I caught my issue early enough, but I was also misdiagnosed by another spine surgeon which is why my operation and understanding of my spinal compression was delayed, always get a second opinion! A neurologist and MRI scan is what saved me. I hope this helps you in anyway.
