Uncle Bobby Alcain, a Molokai farmer and a leader of aloha ʻāina, teaches the Molokai community on his farm, 'Āina Pulapula. At ‘Āina Pulapula, Uncle Bobby grows native Hawaiian plants and vegetables, while also educating Molokai youth about the endangered species. He is also an avid caretaker for Lanikaula and a part of Lāʻau Lapaʻau o Molokai. Over the years, Uncle Bobby has been recognized with many awards from our Molokai community. Uncle Bobby believes there is a lot of knowledge of Native Hawaiian plants and that sustainability is important.
The Na Hulu Kūpuna Project seeks to Hoʻohanohano (uplift and honor) our island kūpuna so these moʻolelo-stories, knowledge, and values are passed on and perpetuated by the generations to come so they too can live the Hawaiian traditions.
The Project hosts a portraiture series by Kanaka Maoli artist Vonnie Brenno Cameron on virtual gallery exhibit at www.huiokuapa.org. Follow Hui o Kuapā on Facebook and Instagram to watch the story unfold!
