The man who 1st took Joe Gibbs Racing to a Championship. He took what Dale Jarrett started and made it much better. He also laid the ground work for what was to come later with Kyle Busch.

Jarrett and Labonte walked for Joe Gibbs Racing today so today’s armada at JGR could run. I got a feeling that we’re about to see same thing with 23XL. Not out of the gate. JGR didn’t win their first race till 1993 Daytona 500 one year after they had a year under them. 23XL has the resources the cars from JGR. It’s just luck and execution needed which today it’s harder to come by then it looks.

Anyone who beats Dale Earnhardt in a straight battle over a year points race deserves respect. The fact that Booby Labonte not only beat Dale Earnhardt in 2000, but with a race to spare and won more races than "The Intimidator," in 2000 and was always running at the end of races that year is a remarkable feat of not only winning out, but consistency as well. The fact that he took Joe Gibbs to his first Owners Title as well means he fully deserves to be in the NASCAR Hall of Fame

I was always a fan of Bobby Labonte. He (and many of the drivers at the time) had something a lot of current drivers don't have...class and viewer friendly personality. When I say that, I mean they know how to talk to fans, they know how to talk to the cameras, they know how to talk to the reporters; you can watch and listen to them all day. Many of the drivers we have now, after a few second on camera, I just wish they'd shut up.

Back in the day when I raced RC 1/10, I was always a JG fan and I wanted to paint up some Chevy bodies. I found the sticker sets from the US and got a few sets to save on shipping to Aus. #24 Rainbow, #24 Pepsi and the #18 Interstate were the sets I got. That 18 car always looked so good back in that era. My car was always different because no-one else in Aus painted cars like NASCAR's. Bobby had a hell of a year in 2000.
