@@AlanPina-nn5sz I could write an essay but I’ll just focus on two points he made in this chat with Mr. Rob Lowe: Bobby knows he’s an addict and he doesn’t stop himself from overindulging in anything he wants, like he mentions the donuts and the many açaí bowls, and he’s known for vaping, smoking, and dipping all at the same time, but he values his sobriety. Even though he’s not perfect he stays on top of it to save his own life. He lives on an edge that I relate to. You want it all but you don’t want to throw your life away. The other point is how he knows people don’t like him and he’s had negative criticism his whole life, but he continues to be unapologetically himself whatever that is. Like he’s honest about lies, he’s self absorbed but genuinely generous, he values obscure knowledge but admits to being dumb.. he’s a very unique vibrant human and he kind of allows me to love myself by putting himself out there and that means a lot to me.

Loved this whole segment, but especially the discussion of sobriety. I agree about the anonymous part of the big book. It would be interesting to see a whole hour of discussion of how the big book should change. As the daughter and sister of addicts/alcoholics, I've been preaching the cons of anonymity for years. Anonymity is more stigmatizing than openness - it puts you in an invisible place. Thanks so much for a great discussion. And, I like that Bobby Lee wants to take a year off from dating - I decided to do that when my Dad died and taking a year off really changes your perspective in very positive ways.
