Sure, you can get ripped off but most of the people that do its because they went to some sketchy friend instead of a real accountant with a good reputation. Ofcourse it can still happen but the chances aren't as high as people online make it seem, its just when it does occur everyone hears about it. Bad news makes headlines. My dad was pretty wealthy and after he passed I met his accountant and honestly he was very honest and tried helping me and my family to the greatest extent possible. He looked out for us.
