3:18 he sings an entire major chord...1,5, and 10(3)...listen closely and you'll hear the 5th in the middle. Absolutely incredible
@carlosgarciavalverde65493 жыл бұрын
Don't think he sang the 5th. Normally when 2 consonant sounds are hold together and are perfectly in tune, they may create a 3rd one that sounds like a "ghost note" (it's weak, but you can still hear it). Whatever is the case, it still is pretty amazing
@nathangabbard7662 жыл бұрын
It may have been an overtone, but the note that was the fifth in this case is not exactly in his lower note’s overtone series, so he may have actually sung it. Regardless it’s still absolutely amazing!
@carlofarina2 жыл бұрын
I too only hear the bass note and the thrid, not the 5th.
@barryschwarz Жыл бұрын
The 5th isn't sung, it's an overtone if anything. I hear 2 notes with some harmonic colour, but the 5th doesn't stand out particularly. Different ears might hear it different, though, said Laurel to Yanni.

You should check out "I'm My Own Walkman" on his album The Voice (my favorite Bobby McFerrin album).
@thatguysoko Жыл бұрын
What’s super neat about Bobby is that if you watch the hand that holds the mic, he places down fingers based on what type of voice he is using. His pinky almost always represent his low range while his middle and ring keep the rhythm in his upper voice. Super unique way of connecting between these incredibly fast vocal changes!

I read that he uses those overtones by exhaling through his nose while singing the note! In reference to the two tones at 2:22.. the fact is that he is changing the pitch of his "raspberry" to create a HARMONY with the tone that he is creating in his voice box!!! I am a singer, this man is an artist! I recreate what I have already heard... He literally creates something from nothing... AWESOME in the most literal sense of the word

well yes indeed, the control he's got over his registers and pithes and the speed of it are amazing indeed. However I was talking about the two octaves in the parts with the lyrics. Like.. "Gonna get in my car" sounds like sung with a back vocalist when there's in fact only him. And it's really his singing simultaneously in his chest voice and his head voice and the control of the overtones in the latter. It's crazy!

McFerrin is also capable of throat singing - a practice common in central Asian countries such as Tuva and Tibet - in which the singer excites the natural overtones from the fundamental vocal pitch, producing a two-or three-part chord of notes from one voice.
