Impressive interview, heartfelt. Great artist. What a devotion, that he always wears the neckstrap of his sax, even when he's not playing, how touching. Some of his compositions & playing are among my favourite jazz music - discovered him only a few years ago!

A few days ago, I heard most of this interview on my local FM jazz station. I had never heard of Bobby before. Now I am looking up his recordings on KZbin. What a treat!

Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers was a touring jazz university where school was always in session! Bobby played with Art for a while. After that, with his own bands and teaching at university, Bobby carries on the traditions of the school of Art. Check out the book "Hard Bop Academy" for the story.

My hero I so connect with him I learnt piano from 8 but the teacher never gave me any songs I liked then I played clarinet but sax was always the end game,Now i play pro Bass guitar
