I’m glad Bobby got to experience the solo success he did even if it was for a few years bc his peak was MASSIVE! In 1989 he outsold every other popular artist at the time with Don’t Be Cruel. Performance wise Bobby had James Brown/Michael Jackson type of stage presence. And he was arguably just as good of a dancer in his peak. He wasn’t traditionally a great singer like a Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, El Debarge, or Johnny Gill but he carried his own vocally in his songs. Bobby shined on stage that’s why he’s known as the KING OF STAGE! He also was one of the first popular r&b artists that consistently rapped in his songs. Him and Teddy Riley were the main pioneers of the New Jack Swing sound that dominated r&b/pop music from the late 80s to early 90s.

@@rickycole6327 I'd go with that, Ricky. This song really captures Bobby's spirit at this stage in his life. Bobby was a huge star by 1988. This song is epic, for me, it's about someone wanting to be themselves and feeling like they can't be as "Everybody's talking all this stuff about me. Why don't they just let me live?" Great tune.

@@vincentstrain2042, true, Vincent, but Bobby was still a huge solo star for a short period in the 1980s. Bobby is a multi-talented man. That's how he should be remembered and celebrated for, not for his battles (which we all undergo) and failed marriage to Whitney. There is more to Bobby than the tabloids wrote about him. He was a New Edition member and a huge solo star in the late 1980s through the early 1990s. Every Little Step is one of the best songs in music history, as is this song and others of Bobby's. His musical impact can't be denied, even if Michael Jackson was the bigger star.

I DON'T CARE about how people feel about Bobby Brown but the man was a musical genius and he will always be! Plus I just found out that this is Michael Jackson's favorite song! If the KING 👑 of Pop says it's him favorite song then it's definitely fire!! 🔥

Bobby was an entertainer, calling him a Musical Genius is like trying to throw a rock from your house to the moon and land it in a crater that you picked out! Prince was a musical genius! What I love about music is that you feel like the song is about you but at the same time, you can identify with the singer/performer. Music is the ultimate unifier. Even though I am not a guy, the song resonates with me. I've listened to it since the late 80s early 90s to today. It was my go to song when I drove to work in the early 90s to motivate me to not let other people determine my destiny. Like Bobby, I have had my share of people who have tried to control me or write the script for me and it's liberating and energizing to hear this song and sing it and dance to it as a form of personal rebellion.
