Bobcat E35 Grease Zerk Won't Take Grease

In todays video we perform some needed maintenance eon the Bobcat E35. One grease zerk on the thumb wasn't taking grease and the other zerk was missing. Bummer t hat grease buster tool didnt work, but fyi you usually you change fittings first as it is the easiest and quickest. Also bobcat has used 10mm grease zerks for years, not sae, and lastly loctite is not a good idea on grease fittngs. That will make them extremely difficult to.get out. Hope this is informative for anyone watching this vid in future.

I have a John Deere 320E skid steer, one of the main pivots on the lift had a grease fitting that would not take grease. I was flipping out and purchased a similar model to your piston oil driver. I used Marvel Mystery oil, first try was unsuccessful after about 10 min. I went out and tried for about 10 minutes over the course of 4 days. Finally it broke through, just took patience. John Deere dealer would have charged me about $700.

Glad that it worked for you! I’d definitely opt for some PB Blaster or similar next time. Diesel was a bad idea!

Aren't you worried about all the solvents, dirt and metal filing you've shoved into those Zerk locations, which will not contaminate the internals? Kinda defeats the purpose of grease protection, right? That blue loctite rarely works when it's applied over a layer of grease. Maybe get in there like a surgeon with some Q-tips. Gotta condition the Zerk threads after trying to force it into bad threads. Bad habits to teach the uninitiated coming to YT for advice. Overall, doesn't bode well.

Grease joints are far from the cleanest lubrication method. Grease is used to lubricate. Zerks are installed to flush out the grease once it gets dirty. Dirt is introduced by working in dirty environments. It doesn’t take much to flush out used grease. Overall I see your concern but I’m not worried about any extra wear on the machine as a result of my remedy. As long as it is greased it will be much better of than it was with a missing zerk and a frozen one.

@@ThriftyGarage I understand the "lesser of two evils" line of thinking. Knowing this from the beginning would have had me avoid the video and my comment. I don't like mediocre. I always think we can do much better, which is the reason for my comment. So many people try to do the minimum, which is not my favorite. It runs along the line of thinking that getting shot once is much better than getting shot six times. Sure it is, but zero should be what we are trying to achieve. Zero contamination, not less. Zero shots, not less.

@@DK-vx5co I'm not sure why you think the repair was mediocre or the bare minimum. Doing nothing would be the bare minimum. Re-installing both zerks without cleaning, thread locker or tapping the threads would be the next best thing. Brake cleaner evaporates. Diesel is a petroleum product and lubricates. Everything performed was done with longevity and proper care of the machine in mind. Sure there is more than one way to accomplish a task. Sure it could have been performed differently. I never said I was an expert. Simply sharing what we are doing on our equipment.
