I'm confused though. The coyote was around 5 feet away from it at one point and even seemed to be looking right at it. Maybe originally they smelled it and once located, decided that prey that big was too risky? Or were simply in the area as well, looking for other prey?

The coyotes definitely saw the bobcat prior to the 5 ft encounter. I think you may be right that when they got face to face, they thought better of it. I have seen bobcats and coyotes come together a few times. Some coyotes chased the bobcat away, one a bobcat swiped at the coyote's face, another a coyote and bobcat pranced off together. You never know in nature. :)

Coyotes often back off from a big house cat. To much risk of injury from the bobcat so they back off. If it were to run then they would think of it as weak, thus pray. But when it stands it’s ground they know better than to attack.

I agree with you in the sense of this video, where it eludes them. But if this came to a confrontation, I don't think the bobcat comes out on top against 2 coyotes.

@@danieldietrich Other videos show that an adult bobcat can handle two coyotes quite well.

@@jiritichy7967 Completely agree. I've seen bobcats handle themselves very well against coyotes dozens of times. Many of these were against 2 coyotes as in this video. In every instance, the bobcat was elusive to get away and not aggressive. It very well could be, if it came to blows, it could handle itself. I'd hate to be a bobcat against 2 coyotes though. :)
