Looking for one of these for our nonprofit equine therapy program. We were looking at a Japanese mini truck to hall hay, spray fields, work the arena but this would do so much more.

Our tool cat and skid steer and Volvo L25E has all the same attachments so finish mower rough cut more 17 buckets 2 8’ snow buckets digging buckets clean up buckets and also a couple pair of forks as well. Our tool cat is a 99 or somewhere around there. It will handle the 8’ snow buckets very well moving snow when it’s just little jobs around town like clearing intersections and the odd sidewalks. The main thing the tool cat does in winter is blowing out allis with a snowblower. We just recently equipped our second snowblower with a tall chute to blow snow straight into the back of our trucks. Works amazing but have to use the loader for visibility in the back of the trucks and such. But our tool cat is one of the main horses in our operation. Without it I can tell ya we would be lost!

Sounds like a good setup. The common quick tach plate is handy for sharing attachments! Btw, Toolcats started in 2003.

@@NaterTater ok then it’s a 2003 I wasn’t sure the year on it but it’s handy all round! We also have a soil conditioner which beats grading and working the hard ground with the grader blade

Running low rpm makes the hydraulics oil very hot! Thats way they say run them wide open so it cools better. Slow moving oil cools slow
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 3 жыл бұрын
Depends what you are doing, the cooling fan is hydraulically driven so lower RPM does mean less cooling airflow across the radiator. Max RPM is about 2600, I typically mow at 1800-2000 RPM which gives better fuel economy and I've never been outside of the "green" (ie. "normal") temp for coolant or oil. Perhaps if I lived somewhere with higher ambient I would see an issue but I'm in Michigan. If you've overheated a Toolcat I'd be curious the conditions and load case.

Enjoying your videos Nate, watching the Toolcat work. What about cutting/mowing an area with rocks embedded in it? Here in the Oregon desert, we have lava rocks in the dirt, grasses sticking out of the dirt, and uneven terrain. Thinking a brush cutter could work but the rocks would dull the blades quickly. Also, do you leave your cut debris on the ground, or do you pick it up somehow? Thinking a Toolcat 5610 would allow you to mow/cut with the brush cutter and drag the tine rake attachment behind to gather the debris, then come back and scoop up with the front bucket? Just looking for thoughts/solutions, thanks.

Hey Jeremy. Thanks for watching. Rocks will dull the blades. They are swing axes so they can take some abuse but not a good long term strategy. Either raise it up and cut high then come thru with a rock bucket/grapple to clear out boulders. If i cut up thicker stuff i will come thru with my root grapple to clean up debris otherwise i leave grasses or hand throw bigger trees.

@@NaterTater Thanks. Looking at flail mowers too where the hammers might be able to take a bit more abuse?? Will continue to research.

@NaterTater 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeremywilliams7057 maybe but the hammers are a lot more expensive to replace. There is no cheap way to brush cut rocks.

Can I ask where you got those gauge wheels? That’s a great idea and I would like to do the same.

They are just standard brush hog wheels on a yoke with 1in shaft. I bought these: amzn.to/3is3tpp I then fabbed up the brackets to attach them to the cutter.

Great video im looking at buying a toolcat, im wondering what kind of operating costs it runs ? Like gal per hr while brushcutting ?
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jordan. The Toolcat essentially has a skid steer powertrain so it should have the same fuel consumption as like a Bobcat S570. The rule of thumb for mowing or blowing snow is about 1 gal/hr.

Here's a thread that may help you: www.tractorbynet.com/forums/toolcat/69420-slope-ability-bobcat-toolcat-5600-a.html. rumor is (per tractorbynet forums) Toolcat 5600 slope ability is 35% front-to-rear and 25-28% traversing side hills. Note that is % not degrees.

Must've took you forever to mow that field. Going back and forth like that. Drive around like a nascar track. Cutting time will reduce dramatically.
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 3 жыл бұрын
The most efficient way to mow is to minimize drive time while not cutting. After doing one or perhaps 2 "nascar laps" on the perimeter the row method is the fastest for me. While the "laps" method is very efficent at the start as the laps get tighter there comes a point you cant turn tight enough as well as you have to slow to make all the 90 deg turns. Long rows is the most common and efficient method for mowing. A google search will reveal that. A unique field or different machine could call for a different approach though.
