Its a shame they hobbled the cooling on the G15, they could have made that a really great laptop. Why didn't they use the Sharp panel SHP14F4 like they did on the G15? That had 94% sRGB. Makes no sense to me at all.

I bought this exact model from Best Buy last week and I was unsure if I should keep it or return it because it’s my first gaming laptop ever and I don’t really know what to look for I guess-at the time I bought it, it was within my budget, it looked sleek for college, and it had 16 gb of ram which is enough for me. I got this same laptop but with rtx 2070 max-q and he's right. Temps stay in the high 70s low 80s. I was surprised. Alot better than my old acer helios. The rtx 2070 model does have a much better 240hz screen.

They made this laptop with better displays. All the reviews are saying to go for either the 240hz or the 4k panel, which have better color accuracy. I have a m15 with a 240hz display and it looks gorgeous.

Hey Bob, ROG laptops will have 3200MHz memory on the 8 core i7 variant and the i9-10980HK. The i9 variants (zephyrus duo 15 and scar 15/17 have them on by default via a bios update). I believe for the i7-10850H it is also enabled automatically through a bios update, at least that’s what it says on their product page.

Hi I'm an owner of the 2070 variant of the 2020 m15. There's a few differences, the thermals: while stressing both the CPU and GPU, the same 10750h can get up to 91°C while the 2070 can get up to 84°C. The battery: It never lasts more than two hours even with no keyboard backlit and minimum screen brightness and silent mode applied. The power brick gets actually gets extremely hot and the laptop's exterior gets rather toasty. The screen I have is the 240hz panel with 100% of the sRGB color space.

Not surprised with the 2070 spite the wattage likely the same. My 2070mq runs up to 86c with max fans unless I tune the heck out of my laptop. How do you like it otherwise? Also, two hours battery seems awfully poor. Are you running MSI Afterburner in the background?

@@BobOfAllTrades Ah, afterburner must be the culprit. Despite it's flaws it's quite the upgrade from what I'm used to. Although, I would've preferred to get the 8 core variant. Overall, I'm mostly satisfied but while unplugged, the 2070 is just dead weight and I don't think there's an option to fully turn off the 2070, even from the bios.

MSI AB will ping the dGPU off and on constantly. I only run that when I’m gaming. It’ll deplete unplugged time big time 👍

@@BobOfAllTrades I have the same laptop. I disabled the cpu boost, just like the G14 and the temperature never reaches above 75C (CPU and GPU). Here are my tests playing NFS Heat (1440p/ Ultra) (fps/cpu/gpu): Performance Mode, boost off (55FPS - 70C/70C), Turbo mode boost off (60FPS, 75C/75C)...If I use turbo mode with boost on (64FPS , 93C/81C).. Turning the boost off will limit the Cpu's clock to 2.6Ghz.

My friend bought this the 240hz and 2070 and the performance is terrible fans are too loud it’s a shame cause it looks great and for the price and specs it’s a good deal but performance is what we need playing cs go on this specs he should be able to run max settings and he can’t even on the worst settings the fps isn’t that good anyone encounter problems like that lmk or else he’s just gonna get his money back thanks and great review

I'm having trouble finding any information on the 240 Hz display option should we assume the color gamut and brightness is similar to the 144 Hz display? For 300 dollars more difference with a 270 Max q and 1 TB ssd that seems to be the better deal at this price point EDITTED: Found out from another review it is much more color accurate and Max brightness is a whopping 347 nits which is one of the highest of any gaming laptop near this pricepoint

Most of the brands do actually, acer, msi, lenovo, 60Hz is good, 240Hz is good, but at 144Hz, that is either a "upscaled" 120Hz, which is these poor 6x% sRGB or a quality native 144Hz

To me it looks like it throttles a lot. For some reason it does not mantain that 4.3ghz high frequency and it seems the frequency is going down as the tdp goes down. For me it doesn't look like an incredible cooling solution and I feel like these better temperatures come form the cooler 10th gen Intel processor. I have a ROG with 9750H and I would not upgrade even for half the price based on the Warzone footage. On the other hand the review is pretty nice, keep it up!

This is very strange but I checked two same Zephyrus M15 , the one with 2060 4K display does not turn fans on when I open many browser tabs , while at the same time the model with 1660 (not sure, the grey one ) turns on fans even on idle.

Hi Bob, I don’t know if you read this, but I am having a problem with the 2070 max-q version of this laptop. Whenever in games, the CPU would boost abnormally high, sometimes to even 4.4GHz and reaching above 95C. It did thermal throttle but not after a while, and I worry a lot of the laptop longevity. I had to use Quick CPU to cap the boost clock to 3.6GHz, as per the thermal guide video in Tech with Sean ytb channel. Is capping the boost clock an ill-advised practice? I also have undervolted the CPU by 70mV in the bios

Bob, I just bought a Rog Strix G15(G512LV), i7-10750H, RTX 2060(115w), while under load in aida64(cpu only)+heaven, gpu is reaching 86°C(thermal limit at 87°C) and starts to throttle, drops power and clocks and even then doesn't get lower in temps, it also makes my cpu reach mid 90s. I complained about it to my asus dealership and technicians are giving excuses such as 'it's plugged in and that's why it's heating to that temperature and it's normal'. I can clearly see my performance getting hit. I have tried undervolting + TS limits but nothing is working, my room temperature is cool enough + i hv elevated the laptop a lil bit. Please help me out sir, i need a validation about my concern which i cn use maybe to convince them to register a complaint and give me a replacement.

Wouldn't you be able to disconnect the batteries (including CMOS) and hold down the power button to clear the BIOS in the event of an excessive undervolt in BIOS? I think it's still best to test in XTU, but can you really brick your laptop by undervolting in BIOS?

How the fuck do you manage these temps. Not a single time have i managed to get below 90°C on my CPU and i regularly hit 95°C while gaming both CPU and GPU intensive titles while the GPU itself sits at 86°C. Granted its the 2070MQ version but its still a 90W GPU. Even when disabling the Turbo i still get temperatures above 85°C. Funnily enough the undervolt makes my system run even hotter because the lower CPU temps result in the GPU boosting even further which now feeds the heatpipes with extra spicy goodness. The thermal performance on my unit is ridiculously pathetic and i really hope that a repaste will help.

In windows it recognize it az x4 pcie but i dont get good result of it .what should i do to improve it ?

Reality of it is it’s really hard to tell the difference between a SATA SSD and NVMe SSD aside from benchmarking it. I’ll edit 4K video sometimes too. I’d return it and spend less money if it were me otherwise you’re probably just stuck with the limitations of the system. Unless there’s something holding it back such as thermal throttling but I’d think you could get past crystaldisk test.

If your computer support dual channel 3200mhz ram and you've only one ram stick installed. It'll run at 1600mhz.
