I have a katana 50 mk2 and the twin tone master,as well as many others. I was instantly hooked with the twin but was underwhelmed with the katana. As an amplifier it’s fine, I add a pedal board rather than using built in effects as I like to know at a glance what effects/levels and parameters are. The twin is a big sounding simple to use indulgence and the katana is a good enough to gig with , not scared to roll around the back of the car work horse

Katana amps are great Swiss army knives of gear. Comparing 101 is always an iffy thing (to me at least) because in a mix you'd get away with many things yet 101 the original always wins. I like both modellers with built in fx as amps that do one specific thing really well. I would not mind owning Jazz Chorus for example 😅

There's tone, but also playing dynamics. Obviously the Fender is the winner in that department, but curious how far behind the katana is. And man that Katana has pretty decent tone. I can tell it's a modeler, but whatever. I have a few nice tube amps and I use my spark amps still when I need quick and easy and fast changes in tone. But nothing like finding the sweet spot on a tube amp. Different tools.

Imo both sound good, just different. But I like both and if they were mine, would play one or the other on any given day. I've had tube amps. I own a Katana. Katana doesn't sound electonic to me. Thats a Class A solid state amp. The effects are are chip. But I like the onboard reverbs. And the amp is designed to be very responsive to pick attack.
@Sm00thR0ckS3 ай бұрын
The Twin Reverb sounded better in the demo, but the Katana can be dialed in to sound better through the app, and it gives you a lot of options when it comes to built in effects and presets. Keep them both.

The thing with a lot of Fenders is when you try to play metal, it doesnt sound right. It seems like they were designed for old-fashioned Americana, and theres nothing wrong with that. But if you're trying to play more modern stuff like Slayer, King Diamond, Megadeth, etc., it really misses the mark. Thats why I'd prefer a Katana over any Fender.

Don’t think you can find two more different amps to compare. Love the katana for what it is , it’s not a twin reverb and I accept that. You actually got pretty close, it’s like that last couple of percent of magic, you just can’t quite get there.

Kantanas are good for their price and such. But the Tone Masters sound far more authentic.

@@shanemichaels8289 I have two Katanas. Like I said, great for the price. I have a Fender TM Twin, a few Quilters, the Tone Master Pro, kemper and some serious tube amps. Like I said, the Katana is good for the price with rich features. The TM Twin smokes it however on Fenderish cleans.

I used Twins and DRRIs for years, and went out and bought a Tonemaster Twin and Deluxe reverb a few years a go and sold them both as it bugged me that they lacked the top clarity and glassiness of the tube versions- not that noticeable on KZbin audio, but A/B with tube version in a room and it's quite noticeable. They are good amps however. The Katanas are excellent for the money. I actually got closest to a Twin Reverb with a Boss Nextone Artist after tweaking the settings in its software, more so than a Katana.

@@stevep7657if you don't mind, I don't have direct access to a Fender, but I have the Nextone Special. Would you please share which settings you used? I'd really appreciate it, because that's the one tone I'm chasing on my amp. Thank you in advance

@@tommanseau6277 I used the "Clean 6L6" amp from the presets that come with the amp (also select the 6L6 on the panel). I'm not with the amp or computer currently, but from memory I am trying to get a good compromise for single coils and hum buckers. I wont go into every setting, but generally, the Global EQ system setting of the amp needs to be rolled off above 6Khz and below 80hz (use the Graphic EQ setting as it's a bit easier), as a 12" guitar speaker doesn't really provide anything in those regions, and we're trying to mimic a typical amp. Also rolled off those frequencies anyway in the Pre amp out channel EQ (select graphic EQ) and also a slight boost in the 1-2khz area. Set the Equalizer Type for British. Turn off the Tone button (Write this settings to the amp before you forget!). Can't remember what else ,but it's a good start. Hope it helps.

Fender has a warmer tone...
@shanemichaels82893 ай бұрын
It’s his setting making the Katana sound thin. Look at the gain and volume on Katana input. If he’d put the gain at 1’oclock and open the channel volume on 10 that amp really warms up also he’s on the 25 watt setting Vs the higher watt fender

I don't know what tube amps you refer to but I own several Fenders, 2 Twins, 2 Bassman, a Deluxe reverb and a Hot Rod Deluxe plus a few Peavey tube amps and none ever went out on a gig or otherwise.
