Mike played many "perfect" solos in his career where every note is perfectly placed. "Spherical" is one of them.
@PabloVestory7 ай бұрын
Even when they are not "perfect", they are Perfect (like that famous one with the WDR in wich he misses the altissimo note and then smiles, and then...;)

Bob, thank you! I had a teacher give me a copy of steps ahead: smoking in the pit, and paradox. It turned me upside down for a bit, but I wore that tape out. Changed the way I listen to saxophone.

Thank you for doing this video! Like so many I'm a huge Brecker fan. Michael's first solo record changed my listening from rock and some jazz to mainly jazz. BTW, I'm the one you spoke to at GUMF at the club on the last night. Keep it coming.... Love the channel and your music. 60bpm

I’ve also been listening to this solo since high school, a little over 20 years for me. It’s crazy how timeless it is.

When I heard this for the first time - just bought the cassette(!) being an exchange student in St. Louis/MO, then 16 yrs. old and with my tenor - I transcribed this part as well by ear. Without any knowledge or concept of jazz theory really - I just loved to listen to and play it (my host family was not that much into jazz, though 🙂). Didn't become a professional musician and didn't play for three decades at all. Anyhow, this record is a soulmate of mine. Thanks for playing it.

@@sleepdoctor09 Neither. I don't remember the organization's name, all I still know is that it was based in St. Charles, MO (which I do remember because I ended up in St. Louis, MO).

and the 2nd phrase (1:40)i think is actually starting on Bb7#5 going to Bmin...but the principle with a DMaj 1235 "pattern" works great on both chords. anyways thanks 4 sharing. great stuff!

How about a VLOG with Randy Brecker as a guest?
@bryandickerson53659 ай бұрын
Thanks much! Yes indeed, Bob, in spite of M Brecker’s otherworldly chops it was his melodicism that always got me the most! He really showed it off on his pop stuff like ‘Still Crazy After..’ and ‘Maxine’ (Fagen) or some Brecker Bros like ‘Creature of Many Faces’ and ‘Straphangin’ (at 1:56) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGnOaXpvhcmAqc0 - amazing! Cool that you’re digging into The Return of the Brecker Bros! My wife and I saw that band at The Village Gate(?) in NYC in 1992 and it was like from another planet. They could generate musical energy beyond what we thought was humanly possible!
