Because of all the ale and butter around the place, when I ran this quest I decided the orcs were a bit drunk and were playing "dodgebutter" in the dining hall. Everyone moved with disadvantage and people were falling all over the room from the butter covering the floor.

I’m about to run Dragon of Icespire Peak for my first crack at DM, I love how you added the Orc in the out house and the players choosing to surprise attack him first 😂 hilarious addition I just might have to add that option myself lol

I love that too! Used the idea for a one-shot adventure I wrote a few weeks ago. The problem is, I'm gonna run Butterskull Ranch this weekend and some of the players were in the one-shot haha. But I think I'm just gonna do it anyway, it's just too hilarious. And besides, the characters in this adventure might act differently and not bash the poor guys brains out.

Just ran this quest last night, the players noticed a lot of orcs in the house drinking and sitting by the fire, they decided to set fire to the house. 12 orcs run out and a big battle starts. A player character dies and the whole building collapses outside killing all hostages inside and making all loot unattainable. was a good game ahha

Nice video. Just ran this part last night. I feel like the essentials quests need some fleshing out in some parts, otherwise the sites can seem a bit empty. Maybe that was intentional so that DM's can have creativity, but I don't think they really mention that in the adventure.

I think it's pretty bare-bones so new DMs aren't overwhelmed by story details, but in the absence of tips and advice for such DMs, hopefully my videos help!

I also found pretty much all the adventures in the set to be pretty thin on the ground in terms of stakes and interesting choices for players to make. At no point do they have to really decide who or what to save, or whether to negotiate with the orcs or fight. Pretty much the only decisions the players make in this adventure are where they're going to stand whilst killing orcs, and which weapons or spells they want to use to kill those orcs.

You guys have the cleanest toilet humor of anyone I've ever met. The outhouse scene could have gone downhill, pun intended, really fast with my group of players who aren't as classy as you guys. Ya'll seem to understand. If you do, do toilet humor, it has to be clever and witty rather than following the same jokes we've all heard a buttload of times before. Then again, a cruel DM could have foiled the entire battle plan by making none of the orcs think twice about why the 13 year old orc took a lot longer in the outhouse than typically required. BTW! Inspiration to Grace for use of the phrase, "Mother Hecker." What a breath of fresh air after getting used to those potty mouths over on the Critical Role channel. Thank you for the reminder of how we can have just as much fun and be adults without sounding crass through lack of language skills and vocabulary.

I ran this for my group. They said let's murderhobo this didn't get B.A.K. before hand just kicked the door down ran in and started killing. 3 third level characters vs 12 orcs. It ended with a TPK.

I ran this for the Newbie DM (Enrique Bertran) one-on-one and he beat the hell out of four orcs before rescuing Big-Al. Orcs hit hard if they all have their great axes ready but not if the character hits them first!

Ran this tonight with 3 third level characters vs 9 orcs. Dragonborn's flame breath weakened them enough for the paladin and samurai to clean up.

I changed the quest just a "little" The players are no longer tasked with escorting that dude to the mine, instead they are tasked with killing the wererat clan that took over the mine, and inside, my players fought some wererats and the wererat king mounted on giant rat with a big magic stick that shoots an ice laser and they saved some dwarves (sorry for any mistakes, english is not my normal language)
