This was a very long week waiting for your vlog! No one does it quite like you, I had to leave other sites in annoyance. Here is what makes your site so special. 1-You film without talking, scanning and picking up shells and letting us look; you leave the nature sounds in the background. Then you must edit the video and then narrate over the gentle beach sounds, describing what and how you find your treasures. 2-You give us tons of useful information about the places you visit: overview maps,, tide/storm charts, travel time, parking and facilities, historical sites, etc. 3-You give us minutes of "non-verbal" beach time. We get to breathe. 4-You have a soothing chuckle and voice. 5-You give us a slow look at your day's gather. I have tried to get my shelling fix between your vlogs by watching others; doesn't work. As I watch others, I realize how much work you must put into each vlog! I am impressed and grateful! I also appreciate your tips on how to use the shells and how to clean them up. Thank you so much. I will rewatch this and some others mid week, that ought to get me thru until next week. ❤🐚❤🐚 P.S. I visited my mom in Boca Grande several winters when she would rent a place in February-March. Most of my collection is from those trips, including masses of sea dollars. It has been so much fun to go back through those shells and, with your guidance, identify apple and lace murexes, all of the scallops, whelks, and a couple tulips. Go back in winter. I promise you will find things.

I love that you tell us about the places you visit and inform us about eating places, gas stations and such because it makes that area interesting. No wonder you were finding it different about the lighthouses it seemed that way to me too. 🤷♀️ Thank you for the beautiful walk and snorkel!! It was awesome!!😊🐬

I just got home last night from 4 days of shelling Sanibel! The best beach for me was Lighthouse beach. It was amazing! I found olives, tulips, sunray Venus, lighting welks , tons of scallops, and soooo much more! The water is so clear!! The best time for me to go was in the afternoon when the tide is going out! It uncovers all the shells!!

Hi my beach friend, What a treat to see those two lighthouses! 😍 I really love the Boca Grande Lighthouse that has turned into a museum. The building is gorgeous. I'm a huge lighthouse fan! I even collect miniatures from Dutch lighthouses. What a bummer you didn't find that much shells. And still no giant horseconch. 😢 But I think it was fun to go snorkeling and shelling for the first time. (At least with camera) Why aren't there much shells to find on summertime? I thought it would be better, due to all the storms that pass Florida during the summer. Hope you have a lovely week with lots of gorgeous shells. Lots of love and hugs xoxo ❤, Ilona
@SWFBeachLife3 жыл бұрын
The NW winter winds help push the shells onto the beach. In the summer the winds tend to keep the shells out in the water, buried in sand. They will get tossed up a bit when a storm rolls through, but the winter winds help make it easier to find shells. It's crazy the difference the wind can make! I don't mind the hunt though. Slowing down and really appreciating what out there is also a treat :) Glad you liked the lighthouses! Hope you have a great week! XOXO

I totally agree with Penny Webb ( below). Your videos are the best and yes.. please go back in the winter. I was there in February and where you found the shell pile there were tons of tulips, whelks, murex and sharks teeth among other beautiful shells! It was amazing! ❤️

Good friend of mine is in Los Angeles right now. She's sending pics of the beach, she says it's nice, but it's not Florida. She was born in St. Pete. She said her heart knows where home is. I told her "Gulf Coast, or no coast"! I'm hoping at some point I can bum a ride with her family to Florida! We're in Indiana. Her husband says she gravitates towards water, whether it's the ocean, or a lake, or a river. I think she may have been a mermaid in a past life.
@SWFBeachLife3 жыл бұрын
It sure sounds like your friend was a mermaid. After living here for the last (almost) 2 years I can say that I'm with you on the "Gulf coast, or no coast" sentiment! Well I'm glad you did too! If you watch long enough, you'll learn about 90% of the shells you'll find down here in SWFL. I have to do more traveling so I can learn about them ALL! Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you for the video. How did you clean your shell find from Boca? It appears that a number of them are much smaller in nature and possibly fragile and wanted to inquire on your process.
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
I just quickly checked the end of the video for the goodies I found and I'm not sure which shell you're referring to. If you mean my big horse conch I just soaked it in a water/bleach mixture. I actually made a whole video all about cleaning shells in case this is helpful too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5fcYZ2iZdigpqc
@SWFlorida-Gal2 жыл бұрын
No particular shell in general just curious to see if all of them were soaked in water/bleach mixture. I have found a number of small shells (half dollar/quarter size and smaller) and wanted to know if all shells found should be soaked in the mixture and if so does the soak time lessen or typically always an hour. Thanks again @@SWFBeachLife

As a local, we pronounce it boca "grand"! As someone who speaks Spanish, I know how wrong that is but just so you know LOL. Also - next time you go you should definitely look for the black fossilized shark teeth! The waters around the island were a prehistroic nursing ground so there are a TON. Google it - once you know what to look for you'll see them everywhere!
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
Good to know! It's a bit of a drive for me but I'll definitely be going back. Thank you for the pronunciation tip as well as the shark teeth pointers!

Some turtles are land turtles, like the gopher tortoises so those critters just need to be safely out of the way of humans and cars. They don't live in water! 🐢
