I followed the instructions with same tools etc and can confirm this works and is easy to do. Only thing with mine I switched ignition on and off 4 times to prime the fuel system before starting the engine. I don't know if this works on the Mondeo but that's how I have done it in the past. Anyway, the car started first time and continued running with no problems. Thanks for the video

Switching the ignition on only works if the car has an electric pump in the fuel tank. Some models of Mondeo do, mk3 and mk5 do I think, but the mk4 doesn't.

You can also do it by putting a hand vacuum pump inline on the return to the tank ( a quick disconnect in the engine bay) cheaper than buying an extraction pump but not as quick, fill the filter housing with clean diesel before you screw it back up and it will reduce the amount of air you have to draw through

Great tip, thanks. I used a 90 degree shrader valve extension, the type used on motorbikes, and a brake bleeder that is powered from an air line that draws fluid into a plastic bottle. This worked a treat.

It saved me. I recently changed the fuel filter, but the bleeding was not a success. On this valve (what the guy shows) was an instant succes and the car started nicely.

Cool videos they are all the better for leaving in bits where jobs don't go perfect. I have this car and need to change the sender unit in the tank. As tank is nearly full need to empty. On my old 406 I could disconnect the pipe at engine and pump must have been at back. Does the Mondeo pull fuel from engine rather than push from tank. ?

Hi great video. I struggle to bleed the same car..... Connection to the schreader valbe must be tight or just to open valve to suck fuel. I discover if the valve is tight fit handheld pump canot suck out fuel

you had me going out to check my car. No valve on the later cars. My 2012 doesn't have one, you have to put a pump on the return line (I did a vid on that). That key on and off procedure is dumb, there's no low pressure pump so it doesn't work. Good work mate

HA HA mate I did the exact same thing when I did mine it started first time all full of myself then it died, great vid when I did mine I used a vacuum pump but I used the fuel return on the other side of the engine I didn’t know about the shrader valve I will definitely use that next time

Hi All, i have searched the forums and cant seem to find anything similar to the issue I'm having although I'm sure its very common. the interior lights in my Mondeo don't seam to come on when the car is unlocked or the doors are opened, the button for turning all the lights on and the button for the open door function seam to work but when you turn on the reading lights they work front and back. i was wondering is this a fuse or is it a case of needing a new light module in the front. any help would be great thanks.

One thing that always puzzles me is why don't the Manufacturers Employ a Mechanic who isn't scared of getting his hands dirty to advise them on how to build cars etc that can be fixed easy instead of leaving it to a stupid design cad engineer who only ever pushes buttons and clicks a mouse....they do put things if ferkin stupid stupid places...whoever thought of putting a pump onto the back of an Alternator and a starter motor righ up the backside of an engine Astra Diesels wants shooting LORL...

Thanks, I’ve taken your advice and it worked perfectly on my 2008 Mondeo last time I serviced it. Great solution. Could this method also be used to syphon all the diesel out of the tank as my Mondeo was T-boned this week and I have about 60 litres of diesel I need to remove before it goes off to salvage. I don’t want to drill a hole in the tank causing mess & spills. Cheers

Hi mate there's loads of different ways of doing it you can put an inspection camera down disconnect one of the pipes and take a sample of diesel

Hi mate I've been having issues with mk7 transit 2.4. I've had fuel filter changed but having starting problems.ive noticed the priming button doesn't really return out while pumping. Could this be a issue? Possibly need to change fuel filter housing ?

my mechanic did this and it still didnt start, he then did something with the injectors and fuel poured out, but it still didnt start, he then had to use a can of easy start with my help to get it started. a day later i can smell fuel through the air vents and its leaking on ground. Anyone have any ideas on what the issue is?

Funny! I just bought a 1.8tdci 2008 mk4 mondeo, my fuel filter is absolutley black! compared to that al least. On the 1.8 my fuel filter is located under the bonnet, and I dont have schrader valve but ive got a little plastic style valve on the top of it :s

Grumble I have a love hate relationship with diesels, love the way they drive hate glow plugs that get stuck and these damn filter peculiarities my vag product needs you to run the transfer pump when you change the fuel filter, which when done makes it spot on, if you don’t I’ve found its pot luck with topping off and just putting back together when you then run the risk of ruining the high pressure pump with no lubricant from the diesel 😤 bleeding ridiculous - get it 🤣
