I use heatshrink on my homemade Kebab skewer tippers. Didn't find too much grip on them so put an elastic band round them.

I like the rubber band trick. I’ve also used the hockey tap... I twist it tight to make it a like a sticky string and wrap it around with a 1/4 -1/2 inch space. I do the length I’m wanting then go back over it with the tape open to cover over the rolled tape. It lasts forever.

I laughed when I saw you were using the castration tool. I thought I invented this! Having had sheep, I had it around. On my first tipper, I actually put 4 castration bands in a row. They are thicker and spongier than rubber bands. This is probably the most expensive option due to the tool. Find a friend that has sheep. This should not be a problem in the UK, I think! I also have vet wrap and like that idea. I have a top end long tipper smaller than a pencil in diameter that is slick. I have a rubber band on it but I think the vet wrap would be better for a more even grip. This was fun! Thanks.

A little sanding around the area you hold the tipper can prevent sliding. Use a 60 to 100 grit to rough the surface. Remember that you are not trying smooth the surface, you are trying to rough it. After playing a while the natural action of holding the tipper combined with the natural oils in your hand will smooth the surface. When that happens - resand. Only takes a couple of minutes and you don't to buy anything or maybe you do if you don't have sand paper. But it's cheap and one sheet will last for years. The other advantage of sanding is that you can easily adjust the area on the tipper you want roughed. Lastly, it doesn't add to the diameter of the tipper (which you probably bought because of the diameter and it's feel) and it doesn't change the appearance. Tipper tip - don't over sand. Sand a bit, try it, then sand a bit more if needed. This method is quick and really easy. Cheers

Great ideas, thanks for that. Personally I use Pop's Bass Rosin. (If you're an upright bass player, then you already have some of this on hand.) Bass rosin is a little softer than fiddle rosin, and stays sticky for quite a long time. I carry the rosin in my bodran case in case I need a touch-up.

For the elastic band, I use GOOP glue to coat the elastic. It becomes very durable.

I've used Kinetic/sports tape, and I even played with a Golf Glove (For that Micheal Jackson Vibe) P.S. cut the fingers off the glove (remove hand first) and use them on your larger tipper hear for an interesting tonal change!

I use the vet bandage and or hockey tape. Black tape is messy however!
