You guys did an exceptional job on this one.... now let's tell the algorithm that! I didn't go much further down the train tunnel than that ether. However, I did manage to get down below and check out what's left of the wreckage. There was a spiral stair case, boilers, and all kinds of random iron bits all over the place! Super creepy and sad down there tho.... 😞 didn't have a channel back then and only have a few pictures...

What a solemn, sad, meaningful tribute this is, to the devastation that took place there. Eleven feet of snow...!😢 It must've been eerie, to be in the area where the tragedies occurred, over a century ago. Thank you for the pics, and the location shots. I'm so glad you didn't endanger yourselves by going too far into the ruins, Andrea and Steven. I had never heard of these incidents. I'm shocked that some people actually survived that horrific ordeal. **Once again, you provided us with a well researched, on the spot video, Andrea and Steven. 🏚🙏🏻🚂 😑 🚞👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Steve and Andrea - here in the south of England, we really cannot even imagine that amount of snow. Iif even an inch dares to fall, everything grinds to a standstill. There have been some ghastly railway disasters. The one thar sticks in my mind was the Lewisham ( S E London) crash in 1957 - 90 dead. Great atmospheric video guys.

We certainly don’t know how to deal with snow over there. I remember that freek storm one April. 2008 or 2009 and no one could get to work. They shut Gatwick down!

This looks like Stevens Pass. If this is out of Leavenworth? I lived in Sultan Monroe area years ago. This is a very beautiful part of the Northern Cascades. I didn't know about the Train Disaster. Thanks for the memories ❤

Looks like another interesting site ... and a great video! 🙂 I've always had an interest in railroads and tunnels. And back in 1991 ... some friends and I decided we wanted to hike through the Alpine Tunnel in Colorado. We didn't have any info on the tunnel other than it was there. We got there and found the snow sheds collapsed as well as the tunnel entrance. There was still enough of a crawl space to see inside the tunnel and it was quite full of water with a strong cold breeze coming out of it! We quickly decided we were under equipped for exploring it and ended up having a July 4th 12,000 ft snowball fight outside of the tunnel instead. I did see some photos of the inside of the tunnel later on and it was clear we made the right decision not to go in. It was definitely a dry suit kind of explore!

There is quite a bit of wreckage left hidden in the undergrowth. Crazy to think they were trapped all that time!

Was it like walking in paradise when you were in the forest. Plus there are ghost that haunt that area. Along US 2. Steven s Pass area.😊 You hit the gem on this one. It is very haunted area because of the tragic death.

It really was very peaceful and we didn’t see anybody else til the very end of the hike. Would definitely be very interesting to do a night hike then!

One of my very good friends wrote a book about the incident, and has been involved in ghost hunting up at Wellington many times. I was supposed to join them on a couple trips, but other things came up to keep me away. Most locals even, are unaware of the history.

@@PinInTheAtlas Yes. Voices, movement in the corner of vision, something touching people..... "Avalanche of Spirits" by Karen Frazier is the book. She's done a lot of paranormal investigation, and has written probably thousands of articles by now on various subjects.

If you go down into the valley there is actually still wreckage left. Plus all the foundations to Wellington are still there. Only they changed the name from Wellington to something I can't remember so that people wouldn't associate the town with the disaster

It was later known as Tye. We did venture up to the town but the ranger said we had the wrong permit!!!!
